    It is an abbrevitaion of "Christ's Monogram" and I assume came into being because someone wanted something to differentiate from a Christmas tree. All of the symbols on a Chrismon tree are symbols of Christ or the Trinity (including the Chi Ro - hence the Christ's Monogram bit). They are usually white and gold, and the tree often has white lights as well. In most congregations I've been in, it's decorated by the members on the first Sunday of Advent, during the hanging of the green.

    Our church has holly and wreaths and candles around. The baptistry behind the pastor has a stained glass window cross that is always lit from behind during the services and there are christmas garlands with ornaments decorating the frame of the baptistry.

    Hi All,
    Our church is decorated with two floral arrangements on the wall behind the pulpit.
    And a large arrangement in front of the pulpit. There is also a tree which *was* near the pulpit one sunday...but really there wasn't enough room so now it is in the foyer. There are no decorations outside, just the signboard...which they weekly change with a verse or saying to fit the season.
    Hugs,
    ~SeaFlower~

    Hi SaggyWoman,

    Yes, our church is decorated. We put up in the sanctuary a green Christmas tree with gold and white ornaments. We wrapped holly around the inside building posts, and put some around the window siles. Live red Poinsetters sit in strategic positions all over the sanctuary. We don't put any wreaths on our outside doors. People might steal them. :rolleyes:

    Merry CHRISTmas!

    Jamal;

    I hate to say this, but people steal wreaths from inside our church. :rolleyes: We were getting ready to decorate this year and could not find 8 wreaths--they were no small ones either. About 4 footers.
