Debt to GDP ratio has been decreased in his first year in office. First time in more than 50 years. Reading that you'd think it was something significant but it's really not. There are so many qualifiers on it, "in his first year" and "ratio" that it's basically meaningless.

BTW, what's the deficit going to be under Trump? What's the total debt going to be? These are the numbers that matter. Hyping that the debt to GDP ratio has been lowered is just an excuse used by politicians to borrow more money, i.e. infrastructure plan.

I'll have to acquiesce to your knowledge on this. I realize it's just GDP to debt ratio. Maybe "huge" is a bit premature. But it's a start and a step in the right direction. It truly would be amazing if we could reduce out debt.

With economic growth comes deficit reduction. I think the economic growth that Trump policies will produce will achieve deficit reduction. With sustained deficit reduction comes budget surpluses. Budget surpluses allow there to be debt reduction.

Budget surpluses is a real possibility with Trump. However, what politicians typically do with budget surpluses is create new spending programs. Bush did it with the Medicare prescription drug benefit. Trump has already said he wants to increase military spending and spend $1 trillion on infrastructure. He claims he has a strategy to use private money for a good chunk of the infrastructure funding. We'll see.

I might watch the State of the Union address tonight for the first time in nearly a decade. He might outline his plan for infrastructure.

No Trump accomplishment however large or small will EVER be admitted to by Trump haters.
At very best it will be claimed as inconsequential.
At worst in some twisted line of reason/logic it will be claimed as extremely hurtful to the nation.

Get used to it until 2024.

I've not watched a SOTU in about 8 years either. I've been waiting for this one for a year, all the more so with tax cuts passing.
