Dear fellow Baptists,

As I listen to friends and peers discuss our society and government's affect on it, I have been shocked to hear how many of our friends, family, and peers don't know the basic building blocks of good government vs. evil government.

I'm led to share snips of "the basics," beginning with the forgotten truths regarding the inseparable relationship between true private property (not found in today's U.S.A.) and your true freedom.

Future editions of InfoQuest* E-News shall feature the very basic definitions of Communism, Socialism, Nazism, Fascism, Monarchy, Oligarchy, Democracy, Republic, and Anarchy, to empower us with a refresher of "the basics" in order to make valuable contributions to water cooler discussions about the upcoming election.

Basic Building Block #1: Private Property
    from Civics in Seconds: http://fp.users.fast.net/infoquest/Civics_in_Seconds.htm

Four elements are required in order for you to have true private property:

    • Total ownership (holding title)
    • Total control
    • Total use
    • The ability to dispose of it

"The theory of the communists may be summed up in a single sentence: abolition of private property." Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto, 1848

    THE BIBLE AND PROPERTY TAX

    by Pastor Matt Trewhella

The Scriptures address all matters of life - including land matters. The property tax is an evil which the Scriptures speak against and which pulpits across this nation should denounce. Let me prove this to you.

Let me ask you - who owns the land? Because we live in a statist nation, most people believe the land belongs to the state and any use that we get of the land is a privilege granted to us by the State (and we should be thankful for it; for whatever we get). But the Bible nowhere declares that the land belongs to the State, rather, the Scriptures declare that the land belongs to God!

Exodus 9:29 Moses declares to Pharaoh (who I’m sure thought he owned the land) "As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s."

Psalm 24:1 "The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those that dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters."

I Corinthians 10:26 Quotes Ps. 24:1 and says "The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof."

Leviticus 25:23 God is establishing various laws regarding land and He says to the Israelites, "The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me."

The land belongs to God, not the State. A property tax is the State declaring that it owns the land, and worse than that, it is the state attempting to usurp the place of God by saying it owns the land.

A property tax is the state declaring that it owns the land. You doubt this. Just try not paying your property tax and you’ll see who owns the land.

Imagine this. Imagine an America in which there are no homeowners, just serfs. No one owns a home or land. They simply pay a feudal lord a special fee in order to remain on the land or in their home. They must maintain the land and home they live in or the feudal lord can fine, imprison, or evict them. They must obtain permission from the feudal lord to build onto their home or make significant improvements. Once they have built or improved their home, they must pay the feudal lord an increased special fee in order to remain in their home. The feudal lord can also send his agents to inspect the home whenever he wishes and the "homeowner," oh pardon me, the serf must grant them entry.

The World Book Encyclopedia states that this arrangement is known as serfdom. They say it ended in the 1700’s. But I submit to you that it has not ended. I submit to you that in America, we have simply replaced the feudal lord with the State. Serfdom is alive and well in America and it is maintained via the property tax.

The property tax is an unbiblical, evil tax.

This one sentence, from one of the links posted in the thread sums it all up, in one sentence.
    Exactly!

The more they allegedly are 'different'; the more they are the same!

Not so. Communism & socialism are economic systems. Not all socialism ends up in political dictatorship, nor does communism have to (although it seems it did in practice). Facism and Nazism are not economic at all, but forms of totalitarianism. Don't confuse economic systems with political ones.

Baloney. Communism is about economics as well as political.

Magnetic Pole is correct. Communism is primarily an economic system. In post after post, you have gotten terms such as liberal, conservative, democracy, republic, socialism, plus many others either mixed up or used flawed definitions.

    Main Entry: com·mu·nism
    Pronunciation: \ˈkäm-yə-ˌni-zəm, -yü-\
    Function: noun
Etymology: French communisme, from commun common
    Date: 1840
1 a: a theory advocating elimination of private property b: a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed

Maybe theology is your better talent.

Leviticus 25:23 is the only verse you mentioned pertaining to the laws of administration of the land, and this land very clearly only refers to the land outlined to Abraham and Moses and the 'Promised Land.' That land is God's (in a legal sense), while Edom, Moab, and Ammon were given their own land also, and with no stipulations as to its specific ownership.

Further, while (obviously) the whole earth is 'God's,' there are no rules or even implications (as far as I know) regarding any of the Gentiles' land except that it was 'divided uto them.

Thirdly, I think the term 'serfdom' refers to a situation where the lord tells the families where to live, what fields to plow, what to plant, and how much to give, etc. Serfs don't have the option of selling and moving, etc.

Lastly, Paul says to 'obey them that have the rule over you. If the state can incarcerate and reposses you, it seems they have the rule, doesn't it?

I think a better case can be made for abolishing the income tax than a property tax.

    IMHO,

    R1

    Both need to be abolished.

That may or may not be true. The Bible tells us to obey the civil authority placed over us by God, in fact, it was ordained by God. That includes paying your taxes, a point made by Paul.

Agree with almost all of this. There's going to be some tax here...I'm not sure I know which form I think it should take.

But even if we went in a radical "founding fathers" direction of limited government (where, oh where are those proponents anymore?)...just the basics (such as national defese) will take some taxation.

But the argument in the OP that thare is a scriptural prohibition agaisnt ther property tax holds no water.

Program of the Communist Party USA

The role of the Communist Party is to guide the struggle of the working class to its ultimate aim of winning working class political power and socialism. In the stages of struggle that lead to that ultimate aim, the Communist Party combines political, economic, organizational, and ideological struggle, the exact nature of which changes along with changes in the struggles and in the balance of power. The role of the Party during each stage of struggle leading up to socialism is to combine participation with the millions in struggles where they are at, agitation for the next phase of struggle, and propaganda for socialism, linking activism in the struggles of the present with preparation for the struggles of the future.

All societies have some things that are socialized, simply because there are things that can be done collectively that cannot be done, or not done effectively, as individuals. This boogeyman talk is straight out of extremist group like the JBS and other red baiting groups who see a commie under every rock.

The Patriot Act illegally gives the soldier's of the king the right to break into your house at any time without a search warrant and without cause. Reject the Patriot Act enacted by the evil King Bush.

    They missed one .. Capitalism.

Doesn't really matter what you call the economic or political system, all are abused by many of those with the strenght or power to do so.

In truth the earth is the Lord's, and all that is in it. This has been already said by iothers here and in other places so I think it can be accepted as something most on this board claim to believe. Think about it and it makes personal ownership a very questionable activity. We are at most stewards of property an possessions for a period of time, and called to be wise stewards of it.

    Regards

    Bob

    Not really.

'Capitalism' doesn't really fit in with the others, in the sense I was intending, for it, unlike the other four, is not 'state' centered, and the more powerful the control of the state, the more 'Capitalism' is hindered.

That is not to say that Capitalism cannot be abused, however.

BTW, I do not find "personal ownership" a questionable activity, at all, from Scripture, except for the Priests and Levites of the old covenant. Job, Solomon, Lydia, and Annanias and Saphirra quickly come to mind, here. Nor do I find that requisite "good stewardship" negates this idea, either.

Yes it does! It looks like YOUR president is, in the final analysis a commie! I'm surprised you support him. Oh yea, I forgot he's a republican so it's alright.

    The Politically Incorrect Truth

Sometimes those who are "spiked" by the media are actually correct.

    Here's a snip:

    Most-hated senator was right
Scholars: Joseph McCarthy's charges 'now accepted as fact'

WASHINGTON -- Although Joseph McCarthy was one of the most demonized American politicians of the last century, new information -- including half-century-old recordings of Soviet embassy conversations -- are showing that McCarthy was right in nearly all his accusations.

"With Joe McCarthy it was the losers who've written the history which condemns him," said Dan Flynn, director of Accuracy in Academia's recent national conference on McCarthy, broadcast by C-SPAN.

Using new information obtained from studies of old Soviet files in Moscow and now the famous Venona Intercepts -- FBI recordings of Soviet embassy communications between 1944-48 -- the record is showing that McCarthy was essentially right. He had many weaknesses, but almost every case he charged has now been proven correct. Whether it was stealing atomic secrets or influencing U.S. foreign policy, communist victories in the 1940s were fed by an incredibly vast spy and influence network.

To say McCarthy was right because the USSR had spies, is like saying that the fire in your water heater is dangerous because fire destroys forests. WND is not a credible news source, and to defend Joe McCarthy shows the depth of the evil in the hearts of those whose biggest fear remains communism.
