(there's a bumper sticker for ya)

This was said right here on the board, at this link: CLICK

I know some people think like this, but I guess a few "brave ones" just come out and say it. :(

Gina, I think that I had better clarify what I said. I do think that most people think that way, but most either won't admit it or don't realize that they do.

I agree that for someone to come out and admit it publicly, is "brave" (or some other adjective). [IMG]

Hey, I remember that from fourth grade! Let me think what I replied with then...

I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you.

And in anticipation of your reply... "nuh uh times ten!"

Geener...I know I'm gonna get blasted for this, but thats OK, I don't think that drum sets belong in Church either!! Course' I'm another one of those ole' fashioned fellas that think the people in the Church are more important than the music....& that following the direction of His Word is more important than meeting todays standards. This from an ex-drumplayer of southern rock. Have Fun!!

I don't like it either! Our church is bringing 'em in though, and they did ask if ANYONE had ANY objections. I don't really like it, but I have no good reason apart from that to object.
We have very little instrumental accompaniement as it is, so I'm not sure how they're going to be used. Right now we have a combination of sungs song without instruments, and ones sung along with the guitar. I think I've heard piano accompaniment three times in my months there.

Whatever the case, I don't have much of an opinion on it. If asked, I'd say there's no reason to think God prefers one intrument and thinks another is wrong. If he likes cymbals, I can't imagine he doesn't like drums, even if I don't.

Anyhow, it wasn't that which made me kinda sit here slack-jawed, it was that statement I quoted. I've wanted to say it a few times myself, and have I thought it? Yes. But now that I see it in type, I realize that it's kinda...I dunno the word for it. Maybe that it's just something that should be reserved for the big answers that we all know have a definite and singular answer, such as "who do we worship", or "what shall I do to be saved", rather than stuff like drums or clothes or whatever. Know what I mean? When claiming your words are the same as God's and all other ideas are wrong, you gotta be really careful.

Well...mabey he should have stated it different, but I know the sentiment behind it.
If it had come from behind a pulpit though, would it sound different? Just wondering...

</font>[/QUOTE]I was kind of glad to see this was on a thread about drums. I'm not very musical (an understatement if there ever was one), so I don't check the music board much.

I've not seen these exact words elsewhere, but I have seen this exact attitude elsewhere (here and at home).

Actually, sometimes my mama goes there and it usually starts with, "I'm an old woman, BUT . . ." :D

If it came from behind the pulpit, I'd probably leave.

Our church tends to be an "all walk agreed" type of situation, rather than a "I'm the man and you listen to me because I speak for God" type of situation. We have a pastor, but any member can be behind the pulpit. If there are questions, they're usually asked the MOMENT something is said, and it is worked out. It sure keeps a lot of misunderstandings from happening.
We're a small church though. I can understand how this might not happen in a large one.

I do wonder if the church in general, as a whole, would be stronger if it was small, just people meeting with their neighbors regularly instead of groups coming from here and there and yonder and then not seeing each other again for a few days, or if there was a strong effort for Christians to live together as neighors, to make that a priority when a person chooses a place to live...but now I'm going way way off topic!
