Ok, apparently I am having some kind of problem with java. Just what is java script? Whatever it is it is keeping me from opening some stuff. Like I can't vote in polls anymore here, and some popsup I click to get won't open either. If it does open it doesn't display anything, it says javascript in the addressbar.

Java runs with the browser to do certain things. If it is having problems, not starting, not present you get the messages.

Have you changed browsers, or updated windows lately. Firefox browser has problems similar to this so I just open explorer and see what I need to see.

If you are using netscape or explorer, if nobody gives you any better ideas go to control panel\add replace programs and find your browser. Click delete once and see if you get a repair option, if you do try it. If not then you can try deleting and reinstalling.

Don't know if it will mess up your cookies/favorites or not - might, so wait to see if you get a better hint :)

You may need to update or reinstall Java for your browser.

I use Firefox, and have had to update mine a couple oft imes. I also use the extension NoScript which blocks all Java until I give a site permission. My wife says it's a pain in her rear, but she understands that I have it there for protection.

If you are using IE, go to

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced

Click on the "Restore Defaults" button.

That should make things go back to the way it was.

If using Firefox, go to

Tools > Options > Web Features

Make sure "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript" are both checked.

If you want to redownload IE, go here

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

BTW, Java and javascript are two different programming languages.

donnA, I did a search on microsoft.com for "javascript: void" and found this.

Hopefully it will fix your woes.

http://tinyurl.com/62grg

I made it a TinyURL because it is so long, but it links to a page at Microsoft that has the download for Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP and Windows 2000. According to the info posted, your scripting engine is damaged. Download it there.

Let me know if it works!

Have you tried restoring defaults?
Have you enabled JavaScript?
Have you tried reinstalling Internet Explorer?
According to the site Gold Dragon listed above, here are the causes of "javascript:void(0)":
If all else fails, download Firefox or Opera.

I don't mean to butt in but I may be having the same problem today. I keep getting script error messages on some web pages & it will ask if I want to continue running script anyway. Could pop-up blocker be causing this too?

I renewed my Norton Anti-virus program and after that I could benefit from anything that needed Java script. I tried everything and am now waiting for a disk to load Java Script...Apparently, the installation of Norton damaged some Java application files and this made it impossible to download Java off the net.

I am not a computer nut, but I am nuts from the computer.

Cheers,

Jim
