NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jimmy Martin, a pioneering bluegrass singer and guitarist who performed with the Blue Grass Boys and many other musicians, died Saturday. He was 77.

Martin died in a Nashville hospice, more than a year after he was diagnosed with bladder cancer, said his son, Lee Martin.....

Jimmy Martin is definately my favorite bluegrass singer. Even if he was falling down drunk every time I saw him, he was rude, beligerant, arrogant, and real mean. But he was one of the best bluegrass singers EVER. His repitoire of songs included a whole lot of gospel, and I hope he was truly saved.

RIP, to the King of Bluegrass.

Jimmy was one of a kind, thats for sure. I think a lot of people would be surprised how many of the great old bluegrass standards where written by him.

I too hope he paid attention to the words of the gospel standards he sang and at some point...even if only during his last conscious moment...took them to heart.

I'm sorry to hear that. He was one of the greats.

Didn't Bluegrass Unlimited just do a cover story on him?

My favorite Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys tune is an instrumental called "Big Country".

I knew Jimmy Martin had been ill. I am saddened to read of his passing.
