Probably not..sounds more like he was in the middle of his sermon. Usually, 'Accept the Lord as you personal savior' comes at the end of a preacher's sermon, at least in most churches.

Now, what are the services like in your churches compared to Osteen's?

Is this intended to be a persoanal attack , or did you say this without thinking?

What are you talking about atestring? This has nothing to do with false teachings. Why don't you discuss the issues of Osteen's teachings? Did you read the links? Do you know what he teaches? </font>[/QUOTE]I watch him at least once a week. I consider him sound.
He loves Jesus and is winning souls to Jesus.
I will continue to watch him. I will continue to watch him and I am going to buy his book.

I just can't believe that no one here who finds fault with his teaching don't tell him thats hes doing anything wrong (if thats the case?)? Isn't that what the bible tells us to do?

Also just a question is it all preachers on TBN, Daystar, and any other Christian broadcasting network, that are not preaching bibcal sound doctrin because thay are on these stations or what? [IMG]

I no longer just watch and listen.... I follow along with my KJV bible and take notes. Thats the best way to see if they are preaching the Jesus that is mentioned in the 4 Gospels.

BTW, I found this link and since we are on the topic (somewhat) would what it says in this link be applied to "TV evangilst" teachings to see if they are on the up and up? (I know it says False prophets but teachers are spoken of too.)

The above link is run by a SDA, which by the quote given below demonstrates that they believe in a works based salvation, not salvation by grace through faith.
I think not! That is not what it means to be born again.

Then perhaps you would be better off if you:
"Examine yourself to see whether or not you be in the faith."

Salvation is not found in words. There is not power with the tongue when it comes to you and God. God doesn't care about your tongue in salvation.

1 Samuel 1:13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

There is a definition of prayer. According to your definition, God would never have heard Hannah's prayer because she spoke no words. She didn't move her tongue. The Bible teaches no such heresy. There is no "power" in the tongue when it comes down to the individual and God. Prayer is from the heart, and God does not need vocal words.

Life and death are not in the power of the tongue. That is a New Age heresy.
Life and death are in the hand of Jesus Christ.

Not probably not, but most definitely so!
It doesn't matter where it is put in the message--beginning, end or middle. To have faith in your words, and not in God, is heresy. As Marcia alluded to it is akin to the Word of Faith movement which teach: have faith in your faith--another New Age heresy. No, have faith in God, specifically Jesus Christ. Have faith in faith; have faith in words; NO. Have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone can save you. The others can only make you feel good.

    Proverbs 12:18 -
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

    Proverbs 15:4 -
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

    Proverbs 18:21 -
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

    Proverbs 21:23 -
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

Looks like Solomon thought that life and death, health and sickness was in the tongue. ;)

    James 3:6-9
    3:6
And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among the parts of our bodies; it pollutes the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by hell.
    3:7
For every creature--animal or bird, reptile or fish--is tamed and has been tamed by man,
    3:8
but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
    3:9
With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in God's likeness.

Of course we can hurt others with our tongue, which those verses are speaking about. But what on earth do they have to do with salvation? Nothing!

If anyone has contacted Joel as to what hes preaching about, I'm courious as to what kind of reply you got. [IMG]

I would not walk across the street to hear Osteen for free. He has publically made statements that he will not preach on repentance, blood, etc. I have no respect for him.

I am still waiting for him and others like him to preach a sermon on a passage such as 2 Timothy 3:12 "And indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted."

This reminds me of a quote from Robert Schuller. He said years ago something like this...

"I know of nothing that has been more detrimental to the gospel than this idea of making people who need Christ aware of their lost and sinful condition".

I believe that is fairly close, going on memory.

I found the link but will not post it here because Joel is charsmatic.
But I did find this in thier "What We Believe" section.

    • The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God. Salvation has been provided and is available for people through Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice on the cross, we can die to our sinful nature and be born again to a new life of purity and power.
    • Water Baptism is a symbol of the cleansing power of the blood of Christ and a testimony to our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

    He mentions the blood. [IMG]

Mentioning it there and preaching about it are 2 different things.

    True that Pastor! [IMG]
I am glad that some use caution with some preachers. But I think poeple ought to check them out just like any pastor in your hometown USA (or abroad). The best way I guess is to check their statement of faith with what they preach.

BTW, Since no one else has admitted to sending a email or confronting Ole Joel....
I was going to email them at the web site and confront them about some of the things on this board that have been brought up and I kid you not where the email part is it says....
    E-mail
Prayer Requests, Praise Reports, and Jokes & Stories for Pastor Joel Osteen

Theres no complaint or question department! [IMG]

Also...(and I don't know if others who have heard him feel the same way?) Joel Osteen preaches the milk type/simple versions (to me its like going to grade school agian). Its not complicated to follow. Another thing is they believe in speaking in tongues, but unlike other tongue talking preacher that (who will remain nameless) will speak in tongues on air....I don't ever remember Joel doing this or even preaching on this? Has any one else?

Something to think about! If a minister preaches an evangelistic type sermon, it is mostly for people who are to be reached, concerning their soul, which don't have much knowledge of the Bible.

Most of these people wouldn't understand a deep sermon or a 'piece of steak' compared to the 'milk.'

My former pastor said at times he had to get out the 'baby food' for some folks. Sure we more mature saints like deeper studies when it comes to the Word....but let's not forget that we have babies in these evangelistic services. Or better yet..not born again into the Kingdom of God!

Now, to get to the older ones, at our church we have numerous classes for, let's say, the older saints. ;) This possibly is what Joel Osteen does with his congregation. FOOD FOR THOUGHT! [IMG]

BTW, I'm not a Joel Osteen follower! Just trying to give the man a break. You all need to quit reading all of these websites. You know you can read anything you want on the web!
