Does anyone know anything about the background of John Hagee? A friend of mine told me he used to be an independent Baptist preacher. Is there any truth to this? Also what does he believe? What type of pentecostal / charismatic is he?

I am not sure about his overall background. He is charismatic and he is hyper Dispensational and believes there are 2 differant plans of Salavtion for Jews and Gentiles. In short he is a heretic.

His bio lists no indication he was a Baptist, though I suppose it's possible; he says he received his theological training from Southwestern Bible Institute (which is now Southwestern Assemblies of God University) and an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts University (nondenominational -- though Roberts came from the Assemblies of God -- and charismatic.)

I have never heard him preach this.

Here are his beliefs from his web site:

Cornerstone Church is not too far from the church I pastor, and in fact, we have several members of our congregation who used to attend church there.

According to what information I know, Hagee was once an independent, fundamentalist Baptist pastor, but that was quite a while back. From what I've heard about his church, it is probably made up of 80 percent former Baptists who have left, attracted to the high level worship (a.k.a. religious entertainment) and his hard core premillenial dispensational views.

Funny, you use info from someone who won't say exactly what he is.

Not that it matters but Oral Roberts never was Assemblies of God but has a background in the Pentecostal Holiness Church international. However in 1968 he joined the United Methodist.

I personally do not consider hank hannegraff to be a reliable source of information. He is not a theologian but has a background in broadcasting and has served a media director for a couple of churches. Maybe we could find a church janitor and call him an apologist and be just as reliabale.

I think it's funny (I see Hagee once in a while whilst I 'flip' through the channels)that on his show, he's got a Doctor telling Americans how to lose weight and be healthy.... [IMG]

Actually I think he is a member of a Calvary Chapel Church (A moderate Charismatic denomination). I could be wrong but I believe that it was Chuck Smith who ordained him.

Here is more info on John Hagee's false theology

Is it true that John Hagee is in his 2nd marriage? This violates the scriptural qualifications for a pastor. I also agree with Kiffin, he is a heretic. John Hagee is about flash and cash. His preaching style is very appealing, he has that old style of preaching. I think if you have heard him once, you have just about heard all of his sermons. I think he has three points, Sin, sex & cigarettes. Preachers let us get back to preaching the whole counsel of God.

    Kiffin,

You said, ' . . . and believes there are 2 differant plans of Salavtion for Jews and Gentiles. In short he is a heretic.'

Ray is saying, 'I have heard him preach more than several times on T.V. and never heard what you claim above. He is a powerful preacher who keeps your attention.

Heretic, sounds like a word out of the 1500's. Just because someone does not believe exactly as we do, does not make them not a Christian.

You are entirely correct. Thanks for clearing that up. (BTW, his higher education was at Baptist and Disciples colleges.)

I lived near San Antonio and have been told that he left his wife and married his secretary. If I remember right he is from the Assemblies. But I am not exactly sure.

Try doing a search on "John Hagee" "divorce" and "1975" and see what you get.

</font>[/QUOTE]I see you were very selective and only chose the official bio.

If you want to find the information, it is out there.

    Try this Google search:
