After this next Saturday's loss to Alabama by at least 17 points the inevitability of a head coaching change in the Razorback football program for next season will be clear to even the most die-hard Houston Nutt suppporter.

Sometimes you feel like a Nutt.

    Sometimes you don't.

Apparently he wssn't such a Nutt a couple of years ago, when he connived to get Arkansas and Nebraska into a bidding war for him, getting a load of money for what he must have known was coming for Arkansas. After this year, Nebraska may still want him even for a lot more.

Know will win consiently at Arkansas anymore. Nutt will be back next year and his team will improve.

Bama will beat them soundly Sat. Bama is on the upswing. Shula has gotten 2 solid recruiting classes and the #'s are going back up.
Bama will be there in the top 10 at year's end.

I seriously doubt that unless the team makes an almost miraculous recovery the rest of the season.

If the Hogs lose to Louisiana-Monroe in three weeks - which has become an actual possibility - then Nutt may not even last the season.

Maybe. Maybe not. Arkansas has as good of sports facilities for football, basketball, and baseball, and track as any college in the nation. The Hogs have the greatest track coach in NCAA history with dozens of national championships and an excellent baseball coach. We'll find out this season if their basketball coach can cut it or else he'll be replaced. We already know in his eighth season that Nutt can't cut it. I think he needs to be replaced after this season with Butch Davis or Mike Leach.

I am willing to give him one more year.

Either way, I don't think he will be replaced until he is promoted.

Give Houston Nutt one more season and they might as well shut down the Razorback football program.

Here is my diagnosis for the Arkansas Football problem - the demise of the old South West Confrence. Back in those days Arkansas made many trips to play football into texas giving them a huge recruiting base. And boy did they recruit the fire out of TX. Who was their last great running back - Barry Foster from duncanville TX, not to mention all those linemen and linebackers. Poetic justice I guess, Arkansas was the first to leave the SWC for the big $$ and now they have fallen on hard times SOOOEY Pig - go A&M!!

Arkansas saw the handwriting on the wall and left the SWC. At the time there was a possibility that Texas and Texas A&M would join the SEC as well, or maybe the PAC-10. The SWC was not going to last.

A lot of Hog fans have wished for years that Arkansas could replace Baylor in the Big XII. I doubt that will ever happen.

I really don't see recruiting opportunities to be a problem. I think the problem is in the coaches' evaluation of prospects(especially on defense) and poor coaching(especially by Houston Nutt). The sooner Nutt is replaced as head coach the better, IMO.

    Ken,

Isn't this a rather young team this year? For that reason, I am willing to give Nutt the benefit of the doubt and give him another year.

Tell me where I am wrong.

Only at quarterback are the Hogs truly young. Most of the starters are back from last year except for Matt Jones.

Sorry. Nutt has had eight years and if the Hogs finish 5-6(or worse) - a second consecutive losing season - they will basically be back where they were under Danny Ford.

I understand. I used to make excuses for Nutt, too - "Just give him more time. Just give him more time."

Well, as far as I am concerned, Nutt's time is up after this season.

    Ken,

They will be lucky to make 5-6 this year. If they do, I would consider that a winning season. They lost many good players besides Matt Jones this past year. And...Matt was a big time play maker and he is no longer there. One more year...and if it is the same next year (at least as far as I am concerned), then it will be time for him to go. Speaking of which, do you think he might end up becoming the next AD? Wasn't there something in his contract that he negotiated about that?

What other impact player did they lose?

I think your expectations are too low for the program.

He might be the next AD. That would be fine with me. Kick him up to AD and bring in Butch Davis as head coach for next season.

I just looked at the roster from last year. I concede the point.
