Personally, as a young earth creationist myself, and married to a physics YEC researcher, we have little respect for the man. He has a tendency to over-dramatize, to mix opinion with fact, and is not current on a lot of his science.

A lot of people love the man. We are just not fans of his.

Ironic ... Just read up on him by accident.

I was researching the D Min, and his name came up. in fact this is what was in my buffer when I pulled this up to see what Heln was saying: Kent Hovind.

He does not have a very good reputation. His degree(s) are considered unscholastic. Even other YEC'ers distance themselves (ourselves) from him and his work.

Having done the disclaimer, he seems to have done a lot of work that is emotionally influential.

I have watched his tapes,to me he seemed to do a good job seperating Hovinds theory, from the plain facts he states. Some of it seemed a little far fetched, but so does the idea we all came from a rock.James do you remember the ice layer theory.Do you remember the name of the man who dug those planes out and restored them.RTG

Kent Hovind came to our Ministry once and made his presentation. I was impressed but felt like it lasted to long, people began to grow weary.

Also I forgot to add that I don't personally agree with the $250,000 offer to any one that can prove him wrong.

It doesn't show up.Go back and look.

  14. He is great!
He supports the 6 day creation of the Bible.
His tapes are excellent, I especially like the one about dinosaurs. I have lent it out to some unsaved friends. Very conservative in his spiritual beliefs.

I want to thank you all for your input so far. You've all has been helpful.

So far I gather that folks think he's on track, but some don't like his methods.

I think the reason I like him is because he doesn't mind us reproducing his material.

This seems to me to show that he's not in it just for the money.

My husband was one of his high school science students back when Hovind was a teacher. I don't know why some people say his degrees are suspect, except for that he finished some of his education(I believe) through a correspondence course.

I understand Helen's reservations about him....the CRI people have had an "agree to disagree" position with him for awhile now on several points. He is one who they believe is using outdated examples to back up his YEC points. Not having enough knowledge in those areas myself, I really am torn, because at our house we love and respect Dr. Hovind.....but we also hold CRI in very high esteem.

Dr. Hovind is a very strong personality. He is not out for money, and at one time his materials were very well-documented. If they are outdated now, I can only leave such evaluations up to those more knowledgeable than myself.

I would, however, like to know which things he is outdated on.........perhaps someone could email me, as that would be quite a bit to discuss in a thread here.

Here is a link from talk.origins (an evolutionist site) specifically about Kent Hovind that I think is a pretty fair analysis and criticism of his arguments and methods.

I would look back to Helen's entry. Her husband is a valid researcher and is familiar with people who run in these circles.I've read enough of her entries to come to trust her knowledge and integrity pretty much.

I tried to read this article, but my feeble mind had trouble following the gist of this argument that Hovind has made "it impossible to meet the standards to collect".

I see in his offer nothing else other than "if you can proove, PROOVE, PROOVE the fact of evolution, then you'll collect.

Since we know that there is no PROOF, just evidence that some men INTERPRET to be the result of evolution, then that's why the offer is still unclaimed.

This just validates the fact that some people would rather trust man than God. It's a faith issue in either camp!
