Thanks, LE. I have supported the President on the GWOT, Iraq/Afghanistan, and Supreme Court choices (well, Alito, at least), but on little else. The immigration issue is one on which Republicans could gain a stronger hold in Congress if they actually showed some guts and stood against opening up the gates. I'm proud of my Senator, Jeff Sessions, on this issue, but few others.

I agree. This issue and NCLB are terrible.

L.A. Confidential: Karl Rove Divides and Distracts on Immigration

    7/12/2006

Washington, DC--(HISPANIC PR WIRE – US NEWSWIRE)--July 11, 2006--Karl Rove, discussing immigration in Los Angeles before a Latino organization today, did not apologize for spearheading the Republican Party's election year strategy of scapegoating immigrants for political gain, and continued his party's effort to use the issue to distract from their failed leadership. Rove, the architect of the "anger points" strategy being used by Congressional Republicans in a desperate attempt to hold on to power, has led the effort to use the crucial issue of immigration reform as a wedge issue to motivate extremist Republicans on Election Day. This echoes his previous efforts to use wedge issues to win elections in 2002 and 2004. [Washington Post, 12/30/2004].

Only three months after Rove was reassigned to work on a compromise on immigration that would satisfy congressional Republicans, President Bush has signaled his willingness to give in to extremists in the House of Representatives and to delay comprehensive immigration reform. [The Weekly Standard (The Daily Standard), 4/20/2006; New York Times, 7/4/06] At the same time, Republicans are increasingly divided on immigration reform, and have resorted to publicity stunts around the country to cover up their failure to secure America's borders and keep the American people safe.

We need honest brokers not fear mongers who want power to fill their cronies coffers. (my comment)

Rove was warned to repent by Lee Atwater ..he has not its fear mongering with him to divide the potential good of a United States of America.

For the record Rove was booed by most in the crowd and was also given a standing ovation by some in the crowd...he loved it as he surveyed the scene...dividing people brings him great joy.

A snake in the grass will bite you when you least expect it, especially when it thinks it's a little god. (See Genesis for another example)
