Kentucky Governor's Race

How are you going to vote between present Republican Governor Ernie Fletcher and Democratic opponent and former Lt. Gov. Steve Beshear? There are no third party candidates in this race.

Hold my nose and jump! {Scowl!}

You got a Doctor as the current Governor on one side, and a Doctor running for Lt. Governor on the other. (The Previous Lt. Governor was also a Doctor.) So why do I suddenly feel sicker?? :confused:

Personally, I'm still deciding on whether or not to change crooks!

Except I will vote for Richie Farmer, as Ag. Comissioner.

Can't bring myself to vote against a former UK basketball hero, for no good reason. :laugh: :laugh:

Normally, I would have voted for Fletcher, as I did last time. It seems to me one of the things he promised was to reform the good ole boy cronism system in Frankfort. At that, he failed miserably. If there were a third party, they would get my vote. My present feeling is to put a clothes pin on my nose and vote for Beshear, with a straight Republican cabinet to keep him in check.

I voted for Fletcher in the last election i was able to vote in before moving out of KY...i'm guessing he went back to the same old same old for state politics then.

I voted for Fletcher but have been disappointed. I'm not sure if I can bring myself to vote for Beshear, but if I do vote for Governor it'll be for him. That's a BIG if.

I'm very, very proud though to be voting for Republican Melinda Wheeler. I admired and supported her campaign to eliminate the office of treasury. The office serves no purpose that cannot be fulfilled with mass printing technology: fourteen other states have seen the light and scrapped this needless office and I hope we downsize our govt. as well.

I'm also for Republicans Trey Grayson and Richie Farmer.

No, unless your candidate has publicly declared as a write-in.

Used to, you could write in anybody's name, but too many of our highly intelligent voters kept writing in Mickey Mouse. So they changed the law.

Fletcher has been a disappointment to some Republicans, who want to punish him by sitting out this election. I like the Democratic candidate Steve Beshear personally. But he wants to introduce casino gambling. And he's super-liberal on economic issues. Translation: tax and spend.

If you can't use your head instead of your heart when voting, at least think about your pocketbook.

You gotta' be kidding about Melinda Wheeler. (Whether the office is needed, is another question entirely.) But Republican Melinda Wheeler knows the Treasurer's salary of ~$125K cannot be decreased, in her term, so that, barring death or removal from the office, by impeachment and conviction, she stands to knock off in the neighborhood of a cool half-million dollars in salary for four years in the office. (Nice neighborhood, no??) If she had promised to give back ~$100K annually, and serve for $25K or so, then I would listen, and vote for her.

The previously constitutionally elected Commisioner of Public Instruction and Railroad commissioners got $3000 per year, for those unneeded offices, at one time. Did Ms. Wheeler offer to do the same? No, she will get her full salary, and barring a Constitutional Amendment to do away with the office (which I have yet to see forthcoming), this Treasurer and subsequent holders of the office, will do the same.

There is a great deal of difference, IMO, between saying "Take away the office, take away my salary!" and actually refusing to take it, or writing a check to return much of it to the state.

"Show me the money!"

I'm descended from a Missourian, even though I'm not from Missouri.

I am voting for her opponent, in this, unless and until she actually "puts her money where her mouth is"!

How? I ain't going to; my family left Kentucky for Texas 156 years ago.

Too bad there is not a third party in this race. This race on a much smaller scale represents what the Republicans have become, a mirror image of the Democrats. They will pay dearly in 2007 and 2008 for inept governing, and not sticking to their principles.

It puts Christian conservatives in a fix. Each has his or her own line they draw, but personally, it is much easier to vote for a pro casino Governor than a pro abortion President. By the way, as a side note, Fletcher can campaign against gambling all he wants. One is either for or against gambling. He obviously has not problem with gambling in general as he did nothing to stop the lottery and racing. Oh, I know, he is particular about his gambling. Casinos are evil, the lottery is not.
