EEEEwwww! Those EEEeeevil MV's...... Methinks that Pastor Bob wanted to start sumthin' up, eh?

Puh-leze. Let's get back to a better and more civil discussion. It's bad enough that a moderator would start something like this.

"Reading" the mv's doesn't cause the "plague" as your attempt described,it does help one realize thier error and the importance of KNOWING what the Word of God is. But the entire approach to mv advocating the "still trying to figure out what God said" is evidence of the result of the violation of Rev 22:19/ children of the author of confusion. Now that does sting!

My hope whilst thou persist in straining at gnats, that "camel" doesn't slip past thy lips.

Y'know, God created the gnats as well as the camels.

Am I to understand that since I am a Moderator I cannot post something that I find interesting? It is no fault of mine that many of you are reading something into the quote that is not there.

The bottom line is, a Missionary is "excited" that a new Christian has spent time in her Bible to the point that she has recognized differences between her version and that of her husband's. This gives the Missionary an opportunity to teach her about the differences and also how to properly study her Bible.

I'd be excited too. Are Moderators allowed to get excited? ;)

Whatever askjo says, usually, regarding the KJV, I take the opposite, as well as the other people who enjoy reading MV's do. My original point stands.

And all this time I thought that KJVOs were the only ones that made the version issue a test of fellowship.

    1. This individual is doing a remarkable job reaching people with the gospel. He has started two churches that are both growing and doing well, and gb93433 would have him come home because of his version preference????? How many people have you lead to the Lord using any version this year, sir?

    2. This man does not make a big deal of the version issue. He uses a KJV and then simply responds to natural questions as they arise. Since when is it wrong to promote a version that you feel you can put your faith in?

Ransom, if that's what you consider "spreading dissent amongst Christians," then you're just wrong; that's all there is to it.

    3. I get thrilled anytime a new Christian comes to me with a question that was birthed from spending time in their Bible. I can share in Brother Smith's joy.

I think I'll recommend to the church that we double the Smith's support each month. [IMG]
</font>[/QUOTE]From the content of the original post I did not get the impression that the missionary was all that excited about anything other than someone who was comparing Bibles.

In response to your question about evangelism: It’s not about how many I lead or led to Christ but about who’s living for Jesus because of my life. Some will lead many and have few living for Christ. Others will lead few and have every of them they lead living for Christ because he disciples each one. I’m not sure if I gave you any numbers that would be al that edifying to anyone especially a struggling pastor pastoring a small church. But if you do want some real numbers e-mail me and I will give them to you. Though remember William Carey never led a person to Christ until after six years. The person who taught me to grow never led anyone tio Christ until after one year in Ethiopia. But there are hundreds living for Christ because of his life now in that country. He took the time to disciple each new believer under communist rule.

Personally I am not so interested in what version except the NWT. I am more interested in the person doing the work of ministry and learning to disciple others. I watched as a man came to Bible study who had a NWT and someone criticized his translation and he never returned. He had come from a Jehovah’s Witness background and started coming to the study I was leading. I was just glad to have there and show interest in spiritual things. I had won him to a degree and in less than five minutes someone scared him off. We must major on the majors and minor on the minors. I encourage the person to read whatever translation they have. Of course I think some are better than others. But I would have the same attitude if I felt someone had the same attitude about my favorite translation.

I am glad to hear from you that the missionary does not make a big deal about translations. But if that is the case I would wonder why the issue was in his newsletter at all.

that's a slander based on speculation, pure n simple, despite the added "apparently." kinda reminds me of "Yea hath God said" line in the Garden.

just because one doesn't think that God's way of preservation is solely in one "official" translation in each language doesn't mean that God's Word, for that person, isn't preserved on earth. the settling of God's Word isn't necessarily done on an a priori, fideistic way, as is the case of KJBOism n Vulgate-Onlyism.

that's because the heavenly Word isn't shredded, rewritten, handled by conceited Anglican bishops, printed by errant copyists n printers, eaten thru by worms, etc.; whereas the earthly Word is. so it's preservation n settlement takes place thru multiple revisions in versions, multiple MSS in multiple text-types, in multiple locales, fr Alexandria to Antioch to Syria n London, Leningrad, Berlin, etc.

&gt; (4) Forever settled in heaven (but apparently NOT on earth) detects ‘the hiss’ of the serpent in the questioning of the young believer but NOT in the MV ommissions from the scriptures by “old” believers...

    what omissions? ;)

&gt; Forever settled in heaven (but apparently NOT on earth) IMHO, has a huge lack of spiritual discernment.

maybe so. but is it possible that beams in one's eye might alter one's perception of reality? [IMG]

&gt; Jeremiah noted the FACT that Jehudi cut out pages from the scriptures.

sorry, that doesn't prove a thing.

&gt; The NIV, to name just one MV, cut out the equivalent of 136 pages from the scriptures when compared to the KJV. I know, I know, some MVs think its unspiritual to 'compare' the versions to see what the MVs left out...

how many pages or words does a version have to cut out to be considered unspiritual? or again, how many pages have to be added for a bible to be considered unusable?

&gt; How can Christians today be like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who listened to the preaching of Paul and “received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” when emissaries of the serpent have chopped up the scriptures to the extent that even a new convert immediately notices the many excisions from the scriptures.

OTOH, the Bereans might've discovered some additions to Scriptures! what if they'd seen the Apocrypha, or the longer ending of Mark? or how'd they feel abt cutting out Jesus' Messiahship, Eternality, Mediatorship, n Lordship fr Jude 25?

&gt; And how are we to evaluate the “spirituality” of men who attack the new converts and detect ‘the hiss’ of the serpent in the absolutely normal questions of the new converts RATHER THAN in the vicious attacks on the scriptures made by the MV translators?

so it cld either way, right? therefore the need to be more like the Bereans who check things out rather than to hiss at every difference among the versions.

&gt; Have we really reached the point where a new convert or a young Christian cannot even point out the thousands of differences between the versions they and their families read?

but why even do that--other than the obsession w making an idol out of one version? [IMG]

I’ve heard the 'Bible Believing Christians Added Words Theory' before. Didn’t impress me the first time and doesn’t impress me now since it is NOT based on fact.

For that Theory to be true, we’d have to believe that Bible-Believing Christians down the centuries intentionally violated God's command in Rev 22:18, 19 and ADDED WORDS to the Greek mss, which were Not supposed to be there.

Further, we’d have to believe that God then used infidels, spiritists, unitarians, and unsaved linguists to “excise” what the Bible Believing Christians wrongly added.

There isn’t ANY evidence that Bible Believing Christians ADDED THOUSANDS OF WORDS AND 17 OR 18 VERSES to the Greek mss

Who taught you that theory anyway?

During a class a teacher wrote down some words on the board. A lady asked me and a teacher where a word is in the Bible. She used the NIV. Our teacher used the KJV. She complained why a word is not in the NIV. I showed her the KJV. She looked up and found a word there. She said to me that she would throw it away. I did not say anything against the NIV in front of her. That is a true story today -- 2/2/04!!!!!

This story reflects to a book that I have at home, "Let's weigh the Evidence." This book said, "I can't Find it...." and "Oh, mine says something different..." A lady complained to me at our church TODAY, saying "I can't find a word in my Bible" and "...different..." I was awaesome to hear that because I never hear her sayings before in my life. Therefore this book by Barry Burton was right.

that book can hit the garbage, for all i care. but God's words shall last forever, even when KJBOs hiss at n rip n shred bibles.

wld that have been a good attitude in 1611, 1612, 1613, when ppl cld not find certain words in the newly published bibles then?

Hmmm...Wonder what that lady would think if she'd see the name JESUS or the name/title JESUS CHRIST used in the NIV and not in the KJV in certain verses?? Or, what would she think if she saw the KJV call the Holy Spirit "it"? I know the explanations, but does everyone, especially newer Christians?

I think it's awful that a church would slander God's word in any version.

So you're saying the KJV translators are guilty of blasphemy?
