I have thought about taking conversational Spanish classes offered by the local community college, but I am more interested in learning how to play guitar.

I am opposed to the English only movement. We have never had an official language in our nation's history. we don't need one now after 232 years.

How many people in this country come from a non spanish speaking country? Why should we all learn spanish, people from another country come to this country and our laungage isn't good enough for them, but our money is, they need to learn english, the laungage of the country they have decided to live in.

It's another "government knows best" idea! At some point there will likely be a big push for mandatory Mexican instruction to all students - wards of the state - in all government schools at taxpayer expense of course.

I guess we should learn all the laungages of the different people who come here to live.
Or, they could learn the laungage of the their new country.

I think people who come to the US should learn English if they want to live here, but I'm not sure I want to pay more taxes to pay for their education. With the way Mexicans are flooding our country, learning Spanish would be a great tool to reach them for Christ. It also might deter them from banning together with dangerous Spanish speaking gangs.

Maybe because Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US?

I think that immigrants need to learn the language of the country that they move too, however, I also think the US lags far behind in teaching second languages and this is a discipline that should be encouraged.

Secondly I find that americans are very predujiced of people who speak Spanish and seem to think that Spanish speakers make no effort to learn English. This is rather harsh because we don´t know if they are truley making and effort to learn. It takes a long, long time to be confortable with another language.
