Leg Cramps

    I will take spells every now and then when I get horrific leg cramps, usually in my calfs in the middle of the night. I've been fortunate not to break something when I jump out of bed. I had one last night, and its still sore.

    Is it a mineral defficiency or something. I've tried eating more bananas, and occassionally take calcium pills. Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks.

    Have you tried micronized diosmin? Supposed to help circulation in the legs, which may be a contributing factor.

    I get leg cramps resulting from my strokes. Often I use a product called Deeprelief....ice cold pain relief. It is a grease one rubs into the leg muscle and the relief is instant. Mine happens in the night due to inactivity and the paralyses takes hold of the idle legs.

    Thanks webdog, I'd never heard of that so I did a quick google search and here is what I found.

    I don't know if it would help or not with the cramps but I'm sure my wife would be envious of my pretty legs :tongue3:

    The active ingredient in bananas that helps with cramping is potassium. In warm weather, people tend to sweat out salts, and when enough are sweated out, cramps start. Potassium is a water-regulator agent in the human body. Get a daily vitamin style potassium pill and take onel a day. It will make a huge difference.

    My mother has these same terrible lower leg cramps that you are talking about. She takes vitaman E capsules and swears by it.

    I get that myself.... In addition to the potassium, try drinking some Tonic Water...it has quinine that Ive been told also reduces the pain. Ive not heard of Jim's remedy though.
