I do not expect a poll like this to be liked or well-received. If what we believe from scripture, however, is true to the best of our discernment, these are the kind of answers we may have difficulty accepting, let alone defending when put on the defensive. Of these examples of deceased persons, whose belief in Christ range from denial to dubious, who do you think is now in hell [hades]?

I haven't a clue about who is in hell - only God and that individual knows that.

The Bible says that those that believe in Christ will inherit eternal life. However, Jesus said that many will call him "Lord", but he will tell them to "depart from me, I never knew you".

I do not know who is in heaven or hell. Only God knows the heart of men. I don't.

The truth is there will be people we did not expect to see in Heaven and some we expected to see will not be there. Only God knows for sure. Either way, there is only one way to Heaven and that is through Jesus Christ.

I think these questions in general are much easier. The Bible does give us guidelines to know who has Christ as their Savior. While we cannot know for sure, we can know that those who publicly repudiate Christ are not in heaven. There is only one other place for them.

If it's a "clue" you're looking for, here it is:

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned (Mark 16:15-16).

What gives me the right to claim that I can judge a man's heart?

    Diane,

There are variances in the answers because we really don't know the hearts of men and women. Some of the questions I chose not to answer.

If someone verbally rejects Christ to my face, then I can say, based on the Bible, they are headed to hell unless they repent. At the same time, there are many professing Christians that will not enter the gates of heaven. They may say the right words, pray the right way, but Jesus will tell them "depart from me, I never you."

I believe that we can have absolute assurance of our salvation. We can't always have that assurance for someone else.

Plus we have no idea what happens in a persons heart "on the deathbed."

Great point! I get so tired of hearing: "I know he's in heaven because he prayed the 'sinner's prayer' and accepted Jesus just before he died." That's certainly good news and it's a comfort to hear, but we cannot know for certain if they were sincere.

Case in point: I vistited a gentleman in the hospital who was near death. On his bed, he wanted to be saved and he prayed to receive Christ. A few days later, he miraculously recovered and was sent home. My pastor made arrangements for him to be baptized before the church. At first he cooperated, but later he refused to be baptized and never came back to church.

And we also don't know how many people, in those last moments before eternity - in the quiet of their own hearts - put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation without ever praying a prayer out load.

The only people who will go to heaven are God's elect. All others, of their own volition and depraved free will, will go to hell.

And last time I knew, it was GOD who did the selecting, not Bob. So I will leave the final tally to the One Who does right.

    It stops beating; that's what.

Maybe this is one of those surprising-- or 'shocking' as someone has remarked-- things, considering this a Baptist poll, but just 41% have answered that "A person who continues to commit fornication, theft and lies will not go to hell [hades] if he comes to believe in Jesus 2 seconds before his death." It's easy to see a Catholic (no sacraments) or 'Church of Christ' (no baptism) answer in this way; but apparently some Baptists do in fact believe that more is required for salvation than belief in Jesus Christ.

But God is not allowed by forum rules to make any selections on this poll; he is not a Baptist by membership.
