Common knowledge? I think not. The threat level changes quite frequently. This sytem just lets us know how the government is looking at the current threat level. It is called....are you ready for this?....

Informing the public! What a concept if the information doesn't do damage to ones socialistic ideology.

In actuality, it hasn't changed much at all. And again I ask...what have you been informed of by this silly rainbow of hues?

I think StefanM made a good point you overlooked, how can the entire country be at one threat level? Why raise it at the airports since the borders are wide open?

<sarcasm> I think Bush raises the level whenever he needs support for the war or he thinks we've forgotten we're in a war</sarcasm>

Back to what Stefan said, wouldn't it be more effective if it was area specific? Anyone know what to do if we hit the highest level?

LeBuick: //Back to what Stefan said, wouldn't it be more effective if it was area specific?//

On 03 May 1999 a tornado occurred in Central Oklahoma. A wind speed of 318 MPH was noted. A new tornado type F6 was made that starts at 318. Over 68 people died. The sod was stripped out of a 1/2 mile swath of Moore Oklahoma destroying some 380 homes. The water was stripped out of the few pools there (it was a rather low price home area with 30-35 year old homes. Did I mention the sod was torn off the ground? The picture taken the next day showed a homeless, brown swath across Moore and into Midwest City Oklahoma. I went to work the next day. People were telling me that tons of sod fell in their yard. There were lessor tornadoes tracking right and left of this big one spaced about 24 miles apart into west Kansas and the Tex-Arkana area. This was pre-9/11/2001.

On like 06 May 2003 a tornado that was F4 ran through Moore just north of the track of the 1999 tornado. Immediately the Governor was on the Civil Defense emergency radio network upping the Civil Defense stature for central Oklahoma only. Gasoline price gouging was a no-no. Most gas stations closed down for a couple of days. When they came back on-line they were at the area prices (Texas, Arkansas, Kansas average). BTW, even in 1999 FEMA took over certain areas prohibiting entry (enforced by local police under FEMA control) to anybody who had no business being in the area (2 places I know of were 6 & 8 months under FEMA.)

In short: there are local variances in the threat level.
Nature is still meaner than al Quadia.
And nature will get meaner as Global Warming progresses.

Both Nature and al Quadia can be made less deadly by mitigation of threats. Denying threats (like Global Warming) does NOT help mitigate threats.

Wise words, Bro. Ed! I also saw the effects of those storms. The Tanger Outlet in Stroud, Oklahoma (halfway between OKC & Tulsa) was blown away. I also saw the results of the 1979 Wichita Falls tornado that left a huge swath of destruction through the city that looked like a giant bulldozer had cleared a mile-wide path.

    From Wikipedia:
Global warming deniers also don't realize their pseudoscience is a hazard to our way of life. Sad.

How is the Left destroying our military? The Bush administration seems to be doing that enough on its own.

There was no question addressed to me in either post that was completely off topic. Is this your attempt to ignoore your derailing of this thread?

KenH ask you a question. Let's see if you answer it or not.

Drop the disingenousness, Rev. You were asked the same question multiple times and know it. Yet you refuse to answer and back up your position. That is very on topic. Therefore, ya got nothin'.

Sorry, if I was off topic then the topic cops should have contacted me.

I believe I hit a sore spot here: Global Warming is worse than Global Terrorism. Global Warming will end up killing more people in the 21st Century (2001-2100) than terrorists will kill.

People who don't have a good grip on statistics won't understand what I'm saying. Currently in the USofA we kill 4,000 unborn babies every day and life goes on as usual. If 4,000 people died a day (9/11 every day) why would it be any different? 4k-dead a day is less than die of natural causes anyway. 4K-dead a day is only 1.5 Million a year. The USofA death total per year is 2.4 Million, that is 6,600 per day.

I sure don't see why we have to sell our souls to the global government because of the threat of Global Terrorism (not to mention Home Grown Local terrorism).

[As a historical sidenote, the term 'going postal' was created in an event that happened in the North part of Exciting Central Oklahoma at Edmund Oklahoma. The first postal shooting happened there -- a disgruntled mail sorter killed six of his co-workers.]

[There is a lady in my church who seems only half there. Some 26 years ago she was the secetary for a Doctor at the State Mental Institution (formerly the Institution for the criminally insane). A disgruntled former inmate (now: 'client') came in and blew away the Shrink. 'Survivor guilt' is real.]

In 1979 I drove through Wichita Falls Texas a couple week-ends after the tornado of 10 April. (I entered the NE corner from Oklahoma and exited the South of Wichita Falls going to Olny (my first wife's grandmother lived there ). Parts of the skyline were missing..

My weather people in central Oklahoma report that in the past ten years the average number of tornados reported from 1 Jan to 6 Mar is like 60. This year there have been some 431 reported.

If you have an agenda item you need to get to, now might be a good time to do it. One might even be able to get this Topic back on-topic?

Perhaps we need a department of the In-Temperature...

So we can we claim then that the Temperance Movement of the 1900s has been replaced by the Temperature Movement of the 2000s?
