Acts 2:46-47 "And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved."

They DID meet in the temple as well as in homes.

Apparently the Corinthians met somewhere besides their homes.

The reason the early church met surreptiously in homes was because they went through periods of extreme persecution. Read your history.

Recently, some Christian churches have been excavated that date from before 200 AD. So it is not true that the model of meeting in a church has always or is always meeting in a home.

After Constantine made Christianity legal, then it was OK to build churches and cathedrals where people could meet and worship God without fear of being rounded up and fed to lions.

I think that is a good thing, don't you? Freedom to worship as one pleases without interference from the state is a backbone of Baptist teaching. It's one of the reasons that this country was founded.

Thanks be to God that we can now meet in church buildings for fellowship and worship.

So back to the OP - Jesus taught that we are to be in the world, but not of it. It is a great Christian witness for us when non-Christians see us meet regularly for worship, especially when our church is surrounded by non-Christian establishments.

I'd be all right with that. It would stifle CCM. :tongue3:

Indeed. I look forward to the day when more Christians learn to discern between the two.
