Manifestation = huiothesia

    We all start out as children, minors, but reach the age of majority and are declared by law to be adults. We gain the full rights as citizens, able to buy cigarettes, be drafted into the military, and vote. This fulfillment of our citizenship, this right of passage, this change of status falls within the meaning of "tithemi" for citizens (sons) in Apostle Paul's first century culture. Before the age of about 14, boys wore the clothes of a slave, but upon reaching the age of adulthood, they donned the clothes of a full fledged member of the family. And this change of status, this fulfillment of their sonship was called in Greek "huiothesia." This word is a compound, made up of "tithemi" and "huios" which refers generally to the offspring of humans. Here the idea of the compound word is to present and empower the child with their full citizenship as children of their family.

    As spiritual children of God only God knows His children, but upon "huiothesia" our "child of God" status will be manifested, we will don "glorified bodies" and meet Christ in the air.

    As spiritual children of God we have the right to become (at huiothesia) physical children of God. When we are born anew, that gives us the right of fulfillment. God has pledged, with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, to fulfill His promise at Christ's second coming.

    The future manifestation as children of God under the New Covenant is found in Paul's writings 5 times.

    Romans 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of Manifestation (as children of God) by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”

    Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waits for the manifestation as children of God.

    Romans 8:23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our manifestation as children of God, the redemption of our body.

    Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the manifestation as children of God.

    Ephesians 1:5 He predestined us to our manifestation as children of God through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

    "CREATION EAGERLY WAITS FOR THE SONS OF GOD TO BE MANIFESTED, (Part Two):

    “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, (“yhiothesia”, the placing as a mature son), to wit, (added words to indicate, “that is”), the redemption of our body.” Rom.8:23

    As mentioned previously, in part one, it is appropriate to explore in greater depth the idea conveyed by Paul’s use of the word translated “the adoption”. The “adoption” to which Paul is referring, the “yhiothesia”, has little or nothing to do with a legal process by which a sinner is granted membership into the family of God, even though, not originally born into the same. This idea is the widely held view and teaching of most of modern Christianity. I believe it is incorrect. And, as with most incorrect teachings, it obscures the true beauty of God’s glorious plan and process for the complete deliverance of creation. Unlike our modern understanding of adoption, “Yhiothesia” does not convey the idea of a child, who is not the natural offspring of the parents, being taken-in by them and treated as a member of the family with all of the privileges pertaining thereto. To try and force such an interpretation to the word as used in the context above would render it meaningless. Our English word “adoption” comes from the Latin: “ad”, meaning “to”, or “toward”; and “optare”, meaning “choose”. Thus, “to choose”; “to choose for oneself”; “to take by choice”. [Think, “option”.] When a family chooses a child not naturally born into the family, and brings her in and raises her just as if she were born naturally into the family, affording her all the corresponding rights, including rights of inheritance, we customarily refer to that as “adoption”. We would say, the child was adopted into the family.

    The Greek word Paul used, translated as “adoption”, is “Yhiothesia”. It also is a combination of two words: “yhios” and “tithemi”. “Yhios” is the Greek word for a mature son, (as opposed to a child, “teknon”, or an infant, “nepios”); and “Tithemi” means “to place”, or “to appoint”. Thus, “the placing or the appointing as a mature son.""

    Once again we have copy and pasted smokescreed, with absolutely no comment on the mistranslation of
    huiothesia as addressed in the OP. Calvinists undermine every effort to actually discuss biblical doctrine.

    Romans 9:4: "who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons, and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the Law and the temple service and the promises,"

    Some scholars believe Romans 9:4 indicates something other than the manifestation as children of God. But that view seems agenda driven. God's bestowal of benefits upon some of His children as promised (to Abraham) exactly parallels God's bestowal of benefits upon His born anew children as promised.

    The phrase "the creation" appears about 5 times in scripture and seems, to me at least, to refer to the born anew children of God.

    So if we adopt (pun intended) that meaning, it fits perfectly in Romans 8:19. They are the only creation of God waiting for their manifestation when Christ returns. And Romans 8:21 also fits as one of the possible meanings of the phrase.

    However, in two of the other verses, Mark 13:19 and Romans 1:20, the phrase appears to be used to mean all of humanity, both those who have been saved and those to be saved and those never to be saved.

    The last verse, Revelations 3:14 is a toss up. I think only the born anew are in view, being originated in Christ, but since Christ is also the creator of everything that was made, I cannot discount that all of humanity is in view. Here is the verse:

    In the above verse, concerning Jesus addressing the church in Laodicea, He is talking to those professing believers who do not walk the talk. They are apathetic, neither hot nor cold. So the audience may include actual born anew believers needing to rekindle the fire of their consuming love of Christ, or some of the audience may be tares, those going through the motions, but lacking any deep root within themselves - thus lacking commitment to Christ. In any event, the opening claim of authority, in my view, is Jesus is saying He is the originator of the born anew children of God.

    Our indwelt "Spirit of God" was given as a pledge of our promised unveiling as children of God.

    If we use this meaning for Paul's usage of "huiothesia" God's truth jumps off the page.

    The angel of that church being addressed is the whole church?

    Off topic diversion. Are the deeds addressed in verse 15 those of the angel or of the members. :)

    Just another effort to avoid the thread topic... The sinful actions apply to the church members, thus the angel represents the assemble in the heavenly.

    Revelation 3:22 ‘The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

    What the Spirit said was to an individual at Laodiceans in Revilations 3:14-18. The angel aka messenger we as Baptists call a Pastor. I gather you have not believed this. Note the singular pronouns used in the Greek. Use the KJV if you have not check the Greek.

    Please stop ignoring Rev. 3:22 addressing the churches. I explained the usage of "angels" why not address that. And no, the "angel" is not a single human of the church, but a single angelic representative of the church.

    Returning to topic, huiothesia refers to our promised unveiling as children of God at Christ's second coming.

    We disagree. Each of us hold certain tenets consciously or not consciously which drivers how we understand different texts in the Bible.

    Rather than addressing the verse I cited, the subject is changed to an avalanche of non-germane citations.

    Who did the Spirit address in Revelations 2:11? Revelations 2:29? Revelations 3:6? Revelations 3:13? Revelations 3:22?

    And at the beginning of each message to the various churches, the Spirit addresses the "angel of the church" referring to the a single angelic representative of the church.
