Chatting with school officials I learned about the growth of Maranatha Baptist Seminary (Watertown, Wisconsin; part of the Maranatha Baptist University system - a fundamental, dispensational Baptist program). Found they were at 160 students enrolled in at least one course and that the were on the cutting edge of technology allowing distance education. On-line programs offered LIVE allowing real-time interaction with faculty and students. A loooooong way from 1969-70 when I was blessed to take the first M.A. program of the fledgling school.

What surprised me was that a person can now earn an accredited MA degree in Bible, an MA degree in Inter-Cultural Studies, and the MDiv degree totally by distance learning. What a blessing to so many pastors who want added training without leaving the ministry or uprooting families. God is using technology to expand training opportunities unthought of 50 years ago when I was in college/seminary.

Lots of folk I know in my Baptist circles talk about "big name" seminaries (Southern, Dallas, Reformed) with long histories. But I feel a little tingle of pride to see MY alma mater holding forth a quality program without compromise.

Maranatha offers the following seven Baptist Seminary degree programs:

    Doctor of Ministry
    Master of Divinity
    Master of Arts in
    >Biblical Studies
    >Biblical Counseling
    >Inter-cultural Studies
    >English Bible
    Chaplaincy

Worth looking into for any college/university graduate considering vocational ministry

I'm a little bothered by the fact that they are calling it a degree in "Intercultural Studies" rather than missions. Some such degrees pretty much abandon missiology (like that of Liberty). However, the Maranatha curriculum looks pretty good.
