This truly deplorable by the church in that it demonstrates to the world at large the power of a leader to influence and circumvent the clear teaching of compassion in scripture.

It is wrong (for the church) and yet I regret where this law suit will lead as a matter a referencing future law suits in that it will be referenced and linked with what we would not agree with.

Satan certainly played both ends of the spectrum on this one and I am thankful God has anticipated the move and countered it.

    Marine's Father Sues Funeral Protesters
    Associated Press | June 06, 2006
GREENBELT, Md. - The father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by anti-gay protesters from a fundamentalist Kansas church filed an invasion-of-privacy suit against the demonstrators Monday.
It is believed to be the first lawsuit brought by a serviceman's family against Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., whose members routinely demonstrate at military funerals around the country.
Albert Snyder of York, Pa., the father of Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder, is seeking unspecified damages. The younger Snyder, 20, died March 3 after an accident in the Anbar province of Iraq. He was buried in Westminster, Md.
"We think it's a case we can win because anyone's funeral is private," Albert Snyder's lawyer Sean Summers said. "You don't have a right to interrupt someone's private funeral."
After filing the suit, Snyder said at a news conference that he hoped a hefty judgment would leave the church members unable to afford travel for more protests.
"I want it to stop," he said of the protests. "I didn't know there were people in the world who did that."
Members of Westboro say the military deaths in Iraq are God's punishment for America's tolerance of gays. They typically carry signs with slogans such as "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God for IEDs," a reference to the roadside bombs used by insurgents.
The church has inspired dozens of state laws banning funeral protests, including a Maryland law that did not go into effect until after Snyder's memorial.

Me, too. The "Rev." Phelps is a disgrace to all who proclaim the Name of Jesus Christ.

I hope the father wins also. As most on this board know, I am very much protective of free speech, even offensive speech. That said, funerals are private, not public, venues. Phelps and his disgusting family/church need to be reigned in, and I support laws that his antics have precipitated, limiting protests at funerals.

I hope the father of the dead Marine wins as well. Fed Phelps disgraces God when he and his clan appear at the funerals of the Marines or anyone in the military and decalre thank God for IEDs.

Phelps and his inbred family came to Arkansas yesterday to picket a military funeral in Beebe. The Patriot Guard Riders were there to protect the family from these dirtbags. When I saw this, I looked them up on the internet and decided to join. I will post a link later. You do not have to be a biker, a vet, or even a hawk to join. All you have to be is a patriot who respects the military and their families for their sacrifice. I would encourage everyone to consider joining as well.
