This story is actually from my area. Locally people are pretty upset, and apparently the guy is getting lots of emails and phone calls about his reply to the soldier. This business is a very small one, apparently run from a guy's basement or at least very very tiny. No store front - just a PO Box for a mailing address I think.

He actually might go out of business over this, but it really wasn't that large of a business in the first place.

Say that it is not so!

Do not tell me that Daisy would intentionally change the topic when a muslim got CAUGHT being a muslim . . . !

OK - you win . . . it is NOT the first or the LAST time she would do that!

Oh, you're going by your recollections only. Great.

I didn't bring it up, as I mentioned before. Go back and read from the start. I was answering Rufus' question.

Your speculation on my motive is more of your usual snarky personal attacks.

That is such a bigoted remark...the kid is a kid. What he said was unprofessional, stupid and very tacky, but not particularly insulting. You have yet to prove it had anything to do with his being a Muslim and not a smart aleck college kid or a peacenik.

As for "caught being a muslim[sic]" - last I checked, he has every right to be one.

As for changing the subject, I was merely answering another poster's question. You and carpro seem to be bent on derailing it with your snide personal remarks.

    Insults are not arguments.

    OK . . . you want a personal attack?

Someday daisy, ya' just might get what ya' want. But, it won't be me making a personal attack on ya'.

Rufus asked for a professional opinion.

    Daisy,

So, because the muslim was a kid I am supposed to feel sorry for his lack of professionalism?

If he was a soldier in Iraq and unprofessionally killed a muslim . . . . would you feel sorry for him?

So, I do not feel the least bit sorry for a muslim kid that is sleeping in a nice warm AMERICAN BED IN A FREE AMERICA instead of sleeping in a bug infested dump in whatever part of the world his family fled from . . . .

My boys and girls are still in Iraq . . . I do not feel sorry for any AMERICAN that has it nice.

Do what you say and not what you do? Great logic.

Daisy, Do you equally condem FDR and his administration for sending troops into France unprepaired and lacking equipment?

American troops lacked proper cold weather clothing, ammo, gas for trucks. Tank crews welded their own "hedgerow cutters" to their tanks because if the tanks tried to run over the hedges they would become stuck, alert the germens or rise to expose the soft underbelly of the tank.

Daisy, are you consistant or is it just wars during Republican admins. that you critisize? Should we have stayed out of France in WW2?

Run out of the guy's basement and he fired someone for their email response?

It was probably him that sent the response. He deserves to be run out of business.

Not exactly. I posted an unimpeachable source to back up my recollections. Somehow you must have missed it.

"Q: I heard there was a shortage of armor like 40,000 troops didn’t have armor?

Gen. Pace: No. About 40,000 troops did not have the brand new improved armor. All had body armor available and it’s the 40,000 deficits in the new armor that’s being corrected between now and December."

Media spin is behind this urban legend.

I don't expect anything of the sort from you; I was saying, I feel sorry for him. One stupid, smart alecky remark and his whole family gets hounded.

    He's not and didn't - ridiculous question.

    Ok.

I hadn't condemned this administration for it - I posted that they hadn't without editorializing. You drew your own conclusions.

Germany had declared war on us. Iraq was trying to avoid war. I don't see the situations as equivalent.

Yeah, I was distracted by all the snarky insults.

Forty thousand soldiers were equipped with outdated, inadequate body armor, but it was body amor.

Q: I heard there was a shortage of armor like 40,000 troops didn’t have armor?

Gen. Pace: No. About 40,000 troops did not have the brand new improved armor. All had body armor available and it’s the 40,000 deficits in the new armor that’s being corrected between now and December.

    "snarky"

Thanks, Daisy, for the new word of the day.

I like that one. I'm gonna use it in a meeting.

If it gets me in trouble, it's your fault.

    Daisy,

you keep talking about the military not having provided every single one of its soldiers with brand new equipment as soon as they got to Iraq (or earlier). The military does not have unlimited funds. In fact, I believe it was the Democrats who so loudly decried Bush's attempts to give the military MORE funding so that they could adequately equip all the soldiers.

Its not really fair to criticize the military for not providing brand new, state-of-the-art armor while at the same time supporting those who deny the military the funds they need. (I don't really know who you support, Daisy....Im speaking to your sense of fairmindedness)

The military would have plenty of funds if:

    A) The DOD could account for billions (or maybe trillions by now) that have been unaccounted for (according to the General Accounting Office), and

    B) If those funds weren't diverted unnecessarily to private contractors in Iraq. There should be accounting by this administration and those whom they place in power (like the Secretary of Defense) for just how our tax dollars are used - apparently, there isn't enough left over after paying billions of dollars out to private contractors, to adequately fund the military properly.

Since this topic has already been somewhat derailed, thought I'd add my 2 cents. It will be closing soon anyway.

These are soldiers and Marines we are discussing, not the Girl Scouts. They are tough disciplined well trained young men and women.

The media has manufactured most of this shortage baloney and liberals and others picked up the call.

From the lies about the body armor to the armored Humvee whining, to the concerns about them only getting one meal a day, to running out of ammunition. Now we're supposed to be concerned about mattresses. It's enough to make a former Marine puke.

These men are trained to fight with or without body armor, on one meal a day or less, on less than 4 hours of sleep a day, sleeping on the ground using a helmet for a pillow anywhere they can find a spot. Their weapons will be immaculate while they go for days without a bath or a change of clothes. Supply them with water, weapons and ammo and they're good to go.

Welcome to the life of soldiers and Marines in combat.

Marines are used to having the oldest equipment the government has to offer and they complain the least. Go figure.

I am pretty much staying out of this debate and just reading, but every once in a while something catches my eye. Do you really believe Iraq was trying to avoid war? Your just kidding there right. Iraq should have been invaded long before Bush ever did, the UN and the Clinton administration failed miserable in this end. Iraq broke over 16 UN resolutions, and the UN did nothing about them and on top of that was invovled in corruption with Iraq. Their resolutions never have had any teeth to them, they are nothing but bunch of whiners from various countries that say something needs to be done but is always unwilling to take action. Also Iraq had the following security council statements regarding Saddams continued definance of the world.

    • UN Security Council Presidential Statement, June 28, 1991
