Translation: the PC(USA) used to look like me, and when they changed, I didn't like it.

We don't stand on the BOO, we stand on the Scriptures and on the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. I don't know the particulars of why you personally decided to change churches, and it doesn't really matter. An entire church which decides to leave a denomination does so knowing the risks associated with leaving. Churches that left the Episcopal church lost their buildings, and the same is true of some of the chuches (not all) in the PC(USA).

Oh, absolutely not. When the PC(USA) supported the Reimagining Conference, we prayed. When they were ordaining women, we prayed. When our own pastor had to go to the GA to stand up for the sanctity of marriage and sexuality, we prayed. What finally made us leave was that there was no feeding at all and we had a pastor who could not lead the congregation by himself but didn't want an associate. It was not the PC(USA) that was the straw that broke the camel's back but it was the tons of bricks that were on the back already. I thank God that I'm in a church that stands firmly on the Word of God instead of what popular culture says.

I think your heart is in the right place, of course, I have to ask: "What took so long?"

But, I thank God you have moved to a church that is biblical in its theology.

The 80% - 90% of the PCusa that claims to be conservative Christian need to follow as well.

Free Church Presbyterians seem to be a good second choice.

It's interesting how people who talk about churches not having a Biblical theology are actually saying that a church does not have their interpretation of Biblical theology. I can demonstrate, Scripturally, how much of the PC(USA)'s theology is in fact Scriptural; however, it would be a particular interpretation of Scripture, just as the Baptist penchant for believer's baptism and the "sinner's prayer" is a result of a particular interpretation of Scripture.

What is better - infighting over whose theology is most orthodox, or joining forces to face and overcome evil in the world today?

You'd likely say the latter, but your words confess the former.

LOL - What took so long? We were there for 13 years and in the early years, it was great (better than what we had experienced before - this is important to remember in a few sentences from now). Fortunately, up until we left, this church WAS Biblically sound - just not very spirit led. The Session was so nit-picky about everything that major issues became whether or not to buy new carpeting for the parlor and if we do, what are we going to do with the curtains? Also, my DH is a worship leader and he was trying to get in some new songs and a little more contemporary worship (nothing too much - just with some acoustic guitar and choruses) into a time before the service so that it didn't change the service itself and we had numerous people come but a few complained that we shouldn't have that kind of music there and so it was stopped. You know what was actually the FINAL straw for us? The fact that my husband was starving in Biblical feeding and he said that he couldn't lead his family without good teaching....AND the fact that they hired someone on to play the organ who sounded like she had dinner plates on her feet. Atleast he had been able to worship before that but now he couldn't even do that! I was so sad that we left but really felt God's leading in it and He's blessed us beyond what we could ever imagine. Remember how I said that the PC that we attended was great? Well, it was great for what we had experienced but this new church is worlds even better than that! I was afraid because we had friends in the old church - within 6 months we had more and more intimate friends at the new church than the old church. My DH needed feeding and we're getting AWESOME feeding - and he's grown so much that he's now one of the pastors - not only leading his family but assisting in leading the congregation!! LOL!! So, what we thought was good was kind of thinking about things good here but compared to heaven, they're second best. :D

The reason we stayed was because we felt that it's not OK to just quit a church when it's not perfect. We stayed, we struggled, we prayed, we talked, we tried. We left knowing that we did all that we could.

    IMHO.

When a church, churches, or individuals struggle with the woman pastorate, homosexuality, and other sins . . . it is in error.

IMHO, a pastor is to lead his people away from sin . . . and not towards sin.
