    Gibson's Anti-Semitic Tirade

Warning: the police report is hard to read and it contain some bad language. It is linked from the above story. The story bleeps out the bad words.

"The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?""

I think in his statement he states as much. He also stated he was sorry, and that he has taken steps to correct his problem.

    Mel Gibson's Statment:

“After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.

“I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.

“Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.“I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health.”

I am glad he was caught, and glad he knows he has a problem. Now I pray he gets the help he needs to kick the habit.

I wish we all could confess our problems and seek help. The world would be a much better and loving place.

Well, there's a reason God warns us against drunkeness. Alcohol makes people act really stupid. People humiliate themselves, and harm others.

Mr. Gibson admits he is an alcoholic, and his behavior bears that out. All the money in the world won't do him a bit of good. I pray he will turn to the only one who can deliver him from bondage.

    The Romans had a saying:
"In vino, veritas." (In wine, there is truth)

When people are drunk, they get careless, and say what they really think.

I pray that Gibson gets his alcoholism and his anti-semitism under countrol.

I am glad to see Mel take responsibility for his actions and hope he gets the help he needs. I think the Romans are a bit unfair in their judgments. I have never as much as tasted wine or anything besides medicine that would be considered strong drink. I have, however, watched many friends in a drunken state who said and did things that were totally 180 degrees the opposite of who these people really are and what they really believe. Drugs and alchohol can do crazy things to the mind. They don't call them mind altering for nothing.

Gibson's father believes the Holocause was largely a fraud, and that the Jews are in the middle of a worldwide conspiracy.

When you grow up in that kind of home, is is a surprise what pops out when your self-control is impaired?

Here is a qoute attributed to Gibson. He seems to believe that a person is not saved unless they belong to his church. Makes you wonder if undertands what real salvation is.

"There is no salvation for those outside the Church...I believe it. Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She's a much better person than I am. Honestly. She's like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And it's just not fair if she doesn't make it, she's better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it."

Mel Gibson belongs to a church that rejects Vatican II and conducts its worship services in Latin and is not part of the local Roman Catholic diocese:

    http://ask.yahoo.com/20040405.html

Just because Mel Gibson thinks non Catholics will burn in hell doesn't necessarily make it so: But as many as received Him, He gave them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in His name. John 1:12 Douay-Rheims. It is Jesus who does the saving, not any denomination. Mel Gibson also needs to read John 14:6-7, Romans 3:23-30, I John 1:8-10, and Ephesians 2:8-9. I suspect that when it's Mel Gibson's turn to enter the afterlife, he will be surprised at who is in Heaven and who isn't. I pray that God will enlighten Mel Gibson's soul and increase his understanding.

Gibson isn't a very good Catholic, then. The Church says you don't have to belong to the Roman Catholic Church to be saved.

I have no idea where Gibson gets that idea. Rumor is, he belongs to a fundamentalist sect of Catholics, who reject much of the Church's teachings.

    True, most of the time.
When we were teens and had a new acquaintance and really wanted to find out what makes him 'tick', we'd get him all drunk. Most of the time, their tongues loosen up and inhibitions come down, and you knew if you can trust him with your life or not.

Just the opposite. People do not reveal their "real" self, as so many are loud to proclaim. Ever been drunk out of your mind? Wasted? Ever had too much to drink? Under the influence of alcohol, people say things they don't believe, use words they would never use, resist authority, something they would never do when sober, and give expression to what a drunk thinks. It is the flesh that is utterly in control when one is intoxicated. As soon as one sobers up, one realizes how incredibly obnoxious and stupid they were. They apologize. That's the "real" self in action, not the intoxicated version.
