Can you please elaborate on the above quote? Are yoy familiar with this sect of Catholicism?
    If this is true would it not be out duty as followers of Christ to boycott this movie?

    </font>
Psalm, this is some kind of a joke right?

    You want us to track down some supposed unidentified "traditionalist Catholic movement"?

    Why don't you ask the author of the article?

    He wrote it after all.

    You're really out there this time, Psalm.

    Hey, Psalm, I'll make a deal with you.

    If you stop presenting the ideas of random Catholics, like O'Reilley or Mel Gibson, as though they were offical Catholic beliefs...

    I won't quote Britney Spears as the offical spokesperson for Baptists. [IMG]

    </font>
Did you even read the words "reportedly" ....this is not a verified claim. Mel Gibson has publically said he is a Traditional Catholic who only attends Latin Mass. Past that I have not heard him publically say anything about his personal beliefs of the Jews or being part of any "movement" that is anti-Jew.

    The Herald Sun is fairly vague about which 'sect' you are talking about Psalms...how are we to know who they are referring to?

    I agree the movie is in the right languages, but the 21st century English version has the Roman authority speaking a mélange of Baby Bush, Walter Cronkite and Henry Kissinger, with maybe one of the minor Imperials blairing a British twang.

    It bothers me not. I'm looking forward to it, if it's a good movie. No matter how good a movie it is, though, there will be those who say it wasn't a "good enough" portrayal. We've heard it with Jesus of Nazareth, the Ten Commandments, and the recent Prince of Egypt.

    Generally I have found fictionalizing Scripture to be a bad idea. I do like parts of "Jesus of Nazareth", and also think the part claymation/part animated "Jesus The Miracle Maker" was VERY neat. As you fictionalize more and more things from the Bible, what happens is that you end up with something like the abhorrent Left Behind series. Sorry if some of you brothers and sisters enjoy it, but my only question is can the pages be easily ripped out and flushed? [IMG]

    chargrove,

    I understand where you are coming from, but my impression is that this will be told SCRICTLY from Scripture. Can anyone back this up, or did I dream it? ;)

    Go to EWTN website and do a search on "The World Over" with Raymond Arroyo....he interviewed Mel a couple months ago about this movie and I bet you can see it using a realvideo player thingy. I saw the interview and Mel did say it was taken literally from scripture.

    Madonna ia a baptized Roman Catholic my friend. And I'll agree with you on one point. Madonna and Brittany are Catholic and Protestant respectively in name only. But I would like some info on the above mentioned article. Read the quote below:

    The actor reportedly is part of a traditionalist Catholic movement that holds to the belief that Jews were collectively responsible for the death of Jesus. The movement rejects changes made in Catholic doctrine in the '60s that eliminated the emphasis on Jewish guilt, the Herald Sun reports.

    What are the changes in doctrine referred to here? And also if this so-called U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops saw fit to blow a head gasket over this movie. Why? Are they wrong or are you wrong?

    The Herald Sun is wrong. There was no change in Catholic doctrine. I have already given you the Vatican II document. Check above. Why don't you read it. It is really very good.

    Here it is again for you.

    Here is something to think about from Vatican II in 1965:

    “Even though the Jewish authorities and those who followed their lead pressed for the death of Christ (see Jn 19:6), neither all Jews indiscriminately at that time, nor Jews today, can be charged with the crimes committed during his passion. It is true that the church is the new people of God, yet the Jews should not be spoken of as rejected or accursed as if this followed from holy scripture. Consequently, all must take care, lest in catechizing or in preaching the word of God, they teach anything which is not in accord with the truth of the Gospel message or the spirit of Christ.

    Indeed, the church reproves every form of persecution against whomsoever it may be directed. Remembering, then, its common heritage with the Jews and moved not by any political consideration, but solely by the religious motivation of Christian charity, it deplores all hatreds, persecutions, displays of antisemitism directed against the Jews at any time or from any source.

    The church always held and continues to hold that Christ out of infinite love freely underwent suffering and death because of the sins of all, so that all might attain salvation. It is the duty of the church, therefore, in its preaching to proclaim the cross of Christ as the sign of God's universal love and the source of all grace.”
    Second Vatican Council October 28, 1965

    I,ve read that very quote on this board thousands of times.

    What was the RC position prior to vatII?

    And is this U.S. conference of Catholic bishops wrong about Mel's movie or are you wrong?

    Until we see the actual statement, and find out who wrote it (and thus what authority is behind it) it's pointless to even ask. My best guess (based on no evidence, I admit!) is that some person or some committee at the USCCB is having an attack of PC and trying to jawbone some said PC into the movie. Hardly dogma, or doctrine, or even discipline. Just some PC "can't we all just get along."

    Mike,
    That sounds like the best answer yet. Why is everyone else having a hard time with this. I can go along with that.

    Mel defiant over Jesus film outrage

    08jun03

    MEL Gibson has declared war on two of the most powerful religious groups in America over attempts to change his controversial new film about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

    The actor has threatened a lawsuit against the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Jewish-run Anti-Defamation League over a report they sent to his film company slamming the script for its depiction of Jews........
