One of the things that always seemed to bother me is the mental image of Jesus Christ that permeates my mind when I think of Him or pray. One cannot help but conjure up images of Jeffrey Hunter, or Robert Powell whenever you picture Christ in your mind. This stereotype of Christ found in all Hollywood movies has as its origin the mental image conjured up by Michaelangelo and other RC painters.
For those who will see Mel Gibson,s Passion, will James Caviezel's image pop up in your mind every time you partake of the Lord's Supper? Does this bother you?

I can't say it "bothers" me. It's just the way our minds work. On a different but slightly related track, why is Jesus always pictured with long hair, whereas His disciples are usually pictured with shorter hair? Just curious.

I can't say that these images bother me, except when they portray Him with blue eyes and blonde hair. Now, that is wierd!

He was Jewish and to me I picture Him with black (short cropped) hair, dark eyes, and olive skin.

As far as Him having long...no way!

1 Cor. 11 talks about the length of hair, on men and women.

Verse 14) Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have LONG HAIR it is a shame unto him?

If you have trouble with 'imaging', please read Revelation 1. When Christ appeared to John, John fell down as if dead. He did not even recognize his Lord! Christ's glory now, and His appearance now, is far past anything we could imagine.

Or, if you like, think of a lamb LOOKING AS IF IT HAD BEEN SLAIN ....

Wow, I posted this a month ago and gave it up for dead. I think this is why God warns us against idolotry. Images we allow into are mind are there forever. Anyone (like myself) who has messed around with pornography knows that even after salvation those images never fully leave our mind.
