More on Baptists and Anabaptists

I am not sure where the other thread is located and do not have time to look, but I thought some of you history buffs would find the following quote interesting. The following is from the forthcoming book: Communities of
Conviction Baptist Beginnings in Europe. The quote is speaking about Danish Baptists.

Based on his experience in Germany, Oncken foresaw that
this small group would face persecution for breaking away from
the state church. He commented in an American report that
‘Our brethren will be charged with being Anabaptists, and the
antiquated laws against that deluded sect will be brought forth
against them.’ The reference to the ‘deluded sect’ is significant.
Oncken no doubt wished to distance himself from the Anabaptists
since among Lutherans they were still equated with Münster.

The Anabaptists had a terrible reputation after the terrible things they had done in Münster and it is not surprising that Oncken wanted to distance Baptists from being identified as Anabaptists.
