Trump tweeted today that he was proud to announce a commitment by Charter Communications to create 20,000 new jobs over the next four years.

    Trump charter.JPG

The only problem is that Charter announced this last October, weeks before the election. The maneuver must have been in the works for months before the announcement. In other words, Trump had nothing to do with it.

SAN ANTONIO – Spectrum will bring at least 200 new jobs to San Antonio with the grand opening of its new Customer Operations Call Center in the city’s Westover Hills area.

Spectrum now occupies more than 50,000 square feet on the second floor of the One51 Office Center campus at 10301 Highway 151. The additional space will enable the company to ramp up hiring, adding bilingual sales staff to address growing demand for Spectrum products and services.

Returning former Time Warner Cable call center jobs to the United States from overseas is part of Spectrum’s long-term strategy to improve the customer experience. Charter Communications, which merged with Time Warner Cable in May and introduced its Spectrum brand of services in Texas in September, plans to add 20,000 U.S. jobs by insourcing its workforce and growing to meet customer demands, along with reshoring of call center work.

Spectrum to Bring 200 New U.S. Jobs to San Antonio Customer Operations Call Center - Charter Communications | Policy

Much of the announcement was not new. Charter said last May that it planned to add 20,000 jobs as part of its merger with Time Warner Cable and acquisition of Bright House Networks. As early as June 2015, Rutledge said Charter would need an additional 20,000 employees after those deals.

On a number of occasions, Trump has touted job announcements at the White House that had been previously planned or announced

The company said more than a year ago in February 2016 that it planned to close foreign Time Warner Cable call centers and move the jobs to the United States.

Trump touts Charter hiring that was in works for two years

Sounds like Trump is going to create "new" jobs by simply announcing what companies had already planned to do! Thanks for starting this thread...What do you think about Trump's campaign promise to Repeal the Affordable Health Care Act, and then telling Paul Ryan to CANCEL the vote on it?

I think Trump just found out he can't intimidate members of Congress.

. . . or, more about the political clout of Rand Paul. I think Congress did the right thing on an individual level, remember Stupak.

The OP is just nitpicking, since when is it a big deal that a politician takes credit for something whether they were part of the deal or not? Anyways, this company issued a press release today crediting Trump for this:

Trump touts jobs commitment first made in 2015

the 25 billion call center was new. The MSM spins spin.

Absolutely right! Even his press sec. commented that Trump is not a dictator. (Thank Goodness for that!) But Trump sure seemed to act like one, when he first got into office, by banning ALL immigration from certain countries.

What do you expect him to say when he visits the White House?

This plan to hire more workers was in the works for months before the election. Businesses do not make spending plans based on the promises of a presidential candidate.

Maybe not on the promises of the candidate - but they may wait until elections results - of both Congress and POTUS>

Please read the OP. Decision was made well before the election:

As early as June 2015, Rutledge said Charter would need an additional 20,000 employees after those deals.
The company said more than a year ago in February 2016 that it planned to close foreign Time Warner Cable call centers and move the jobs to the United States.

Do you think that if Hillary had won they would not follow through with their plans?

Hard to say - at a minimum they may have made some adjustments.

Trump says he is a Presbyterian. Do you think his faith has any effect on his actions?

Judging by his three marriages, his owning of casinos, his denigration of women, his sexual escapades, his constant lying, I'd say no.

    Salty,

See latest context for this thread. Do you think that Trump's lack of faith will sabotage his Presidency? Recall that Obama, while not perfect, did go to Church, and his liberal policies did help many people, esp. the Affordable Health Care Act. This program has defects, but instead of fixing these, the only thing Republicans want to do is to cut social programs, or eliminate them altogether, and pass the "savings" on to the rich in the form of DEEP tax cuts!

    Trump ford jobs.JPG

Big announcement that was made today was the result of an agreement that Ford made with the United Auto Workers back in 2015, years before Trump was President. Still, why not take credit for it. Also, Ford didn't have these jobs in other countries and are now bringing them back, they are investing in existing US auto assembly plants. Oh, and the jobs? One hundred and thirty new jobs. Yippee!

Thousands of former Trump University students will get most of their money back, with a judge on Friday approving a $25 million settlement.

American Jobs Are Headed to Mexico Once Again

After Donald Trump’s election, the flow of manufacturers setting up shop south of the border dwindled to a trickle. Ford Motor Co. and Carrier Corp., caught in Trump’s Twitter crosshairs, scrapped plans to move jobs to Mexico in two very public examples of the slowdown.

But now the pace is picking back up. Illinois Tool Works Inc. will close an auto-parts plant in Mazon, Illinois, this month and head to Ciudad Juarez. Triumph Group Inc. is reducing the Spokane, Washington, workforce that makes fiber-composite parts for Boeing Co. aircraft and moving production to Zacatecas and Baja California. TE Connectivity Ltd. is shuttering a pressure-sensor plant in Pennsauken, New Jersey, in favor of a facility in Hermosillo.

Did I miss something? I didn't see in your post, nor his tweet, where he took credit for it.

Yeah, the stock market surged because companies knew that they would still be able to move jobs away, if they wanted to, regardless of Trump's opinions. Big business wants government welfare no matter what they do!
