We see yet another topic that is off limits, like his ears, his preacher, his middle name.....

Now we see the junior senator telling everyone to "lay off his wife".....

I say, if she opens up her trap & starts yelling about how America is a mean country, and telling young women not to bother with corporate America, then she can be criticized. She is the one who put herself on the national front.

If he continues to make threats against those who criticize his wife like he did over the weekend he will lose credibility.

Then he should keep her mouth shut from now on. But as long as she speaks publically, and preaches anti americanism, people are going to take notice.

I don't mind the criticism of Mrs. Obama over her comments as long as they are kept within reasonable bounds. After all, her husband is the one who would be president, not her.

What, and please be specific, has Mrs. Obama ever said or written that can be reasonably characterized as "preaching anti-americanism"?

Is it her statement about America being a mean country? Is someone who criticizes American society automatically anti-American? Clearly the answer is no.

To argue otherwise is like saying that a parent who tells his / her child that "he is mean to other children" is also "anti-their-own-child".

    Does that make sense?

This isn't about her being anti-anything. It's asking if she is off limits for criticism.

She will be first lady and as such has certain responsibilities in representing the USA. Running down the US is not one of them. This very much speaks as to what we can expect if he is elected president.

She has made herself a public figure by going out and holding rallies (etc). If she can't take the political heat then she should get out of the political kitchen.

==She does not preach anti-americanism. The same people who say she does are generally speaking the same people who still believe Barack Obama is a Muslim and that all Muslims are terrorists. Clearly facts make little difference in this type of political environment.

If Mrs. Obama had run down the United States, then I would be concerned. However, she has not done so, therefore, I am not concerned. I am well aware of what the radical right-wing considers to be remarks running down the United States; however, that is not how I take them since I am not a radical right-winger.

I certainly would not want a first lady who is anti-American and I don't understand why anyone else would.

    Talk about spreading ill will.....

I still do not see how it is that rebuke of American culture is Ant-American. Do you rebuke your kids? If you do, are you therefore "anti-your-kids"?

How can your society make any progress at all if its citizens are somehow barred from rebuking it without being declared "anti-American".

This is really a rather curious American phenomena that really isn't present in my country. When a Canadian criticizes Canadian society in some way, there is no avalanche of "you are being anti-Canadian" ire.
