The US Air Force has updated and broadened its dress code to allow turbans, beards, and hijabs

    Thoughts?

On one hand I don’t think we should be changing rules to appease everyone and be everything to everyone.

On the other hand they do swear to uphold and defend the constitution... the constitution allows for them to worship their false gods. The gov should have never been granted more power than the constitution allows for, especially not power that Denies citizens constitutional rights.

Errm, turbans are not a piece of Muslim garb. They are, however, traditional Sikh wear.

It matters when Sikhs get blamed for what Muslims do. At least one Sikh has been the mistaken target of violence aimed at Muslims.

With all the the advanced technology we developed and liberty we have sacrificed in the name of security, your telling me we can’t identify people without looking at what head gear they’re wearing first?

What difference does it make inside our military? Is it acceptable that the gov is catering to these peoples in order to be PC?

Shouldn't be a big deal. After all, "the times, they are a'changin' ".

During WW2, the British allowed "colonial" soldiers to wear at least some native garb.

I disliked the hair standards imposed during my time in the USN. After all, just look at the thousands of pics of Civil War soldiers. With many sporting long hair & beards, especially officers, they looked like today's hippies.

However, a turban, fez, or hijab might not be the best choice to wear into BATTLE...

Sikhs are longtime allies of the British. They fought with us in both world wars. They are splendid soldiers noted for bravery.

However, in Canada many of them are very liberal and are allied with Trudeau and even the hard left.

The American military should not allow this individuality just for Sihks or anyone else.

I'm conflicted. Different standards for different groups is not the way to instill discipline and good order into a formation.

Then, American Civil War soldiers on both sides had almost every hair/facial hair style imaginable, umpteen headgear styles, and even varying uniforms. (or no uniform at all.) While the Feds generally had blue uniforms & shako headgear, Then, there were Zouave units (Named after the Zwava tribes in Algeria) that wore baggy red pants and a fez-like headgear.

The American Zouaves were light-infantry units that marched fast, with space between men, lay on their backs to load their rifles, & generally fired from a prone position, or from one knee. However, they found that red pants & headgear made easy targets for the rebs, & so modified the colors of their uniforms accordingly.

There was no difference in the fighting abilities of any of the Civil War soldiers due to headgear or hairstyle. I doubt if there's any such differences now.

Unit specific regalia is not what we're talking about. And while differing hair and facial hair styles were prevalent during the Civil War, the regulations that allowed those styles were the same for everyone. Beards and muttonchops weren't restricted by ethnicity or religion.

    So, you've missed the point.

I agree, I do not have a problem with this. Sikhs have a long tradition of military service so we should not be afraid to take advantage of their warrior ethos. The same with Muslims or any other group, if they are true to the oath they take to defend the Constitution and the country, let them serve with whatever headgear their faith tradition calls for. This policy should be limited to headgear, in every other instance the proper uniform must be worn.

We are catering to heathen. We had some of that in WW II. Some did not want to fight on Friday, others Saturday, and others Sunday. And then Monday is bad, too....
