My Jesus I Love Thee antecedents

    Most of us are probably familiar with the hymn My Jesus, I Love Thee, attributed to the Primitive Methodist William Featherston and usually sung to a tune composed for it by the Baptist Adoniram Gordon.

    Those with the shape-note heritage may be familiar with O Jesus, My Savior, I Know Thou Art Mine attributed to Caleb Taylor and found in both the Southern Harmony (to "Imandra") and the Sacred Harp (to "Expression").

    But you're very likely not acquainted with The Christian's Song and Love to Christ by Sarah Jones, who died in 1794.
