How can you offend a "non-tribe"?

Another thought - should Baptist deacons be offended at the Wake Forest Mascot?

They certainly will have a hard time enforcing it. Personally I really don't see it happening.

The next thing you know the NCAA will ban names that are animals, because the poor helpless animals can't express how they are being exploited unfairly.

No,No!!! Florida will keep the name Gators.
Florida State will keep the name Seminole.
You don't want to start a war here in Florida do you?

</font>[/QUOTE]Yes, I wouldn't call that school a Baptist school anymore. It has gone the way of many SBC schools. I don't even know if the Baptist still give to it. Wasn't RJR the ones who put the money up to move the school from Wake Forest to Wiston Salem, I'm not sure.

Forgive me Brother Bob. I don't want any civil or uncivil wars in Florida.

I find it rather interesting that the NCAA's headquarters are in Indianopolis, Indiana.

Bill, Thanks, it is hard down here when they play, family members have a hard time talking to each other, if one is for Florida and another is for FSU. It can get very uncivil for that day.

I'm a registered member of two tribes. I'm an Indian and I've never been offended by some of the silly stuff said. I am not offended by the Deacons either. Go Deacs! I am offended when someone starts telling me I should be offended or gives me a long lecture on why I should favor Native American (bleh!) over Indian.

The NCAA has lost it's mind. I'm so glad the Seminoles will remain that, although apparently not all of the Seminole tribe are. I saw a few interviewed that have never liked it.

Praying that this is precident and all get to keep our names. If they don't, I think we'd better watch out for what's to come . . .

McDirector, I'm sure you know where the term 'Indian' came from. And I know several Lakota who call themselves the French name 'Sioux'. Seems the NCAA has listened to a few simpletons instead of listening to the VAST MAJORITY.
