I once heard a quote that sounds something like this....

"You can’t impress people with yourself while at the same time impress people with God"

Has anyone else heard something like this?...
    Maybe it is worded different...

Would you happen to know who the quote is attributed to?

For some reason Adrian Rogers is popping into my head.

I believe the quote is more closely to:

You can either show them Christ or you can show them yourself. But you cannot do both.

    My first inclination was Spurgeon.

    Yeah, that's it...

Now I wonder who first said it.. I am going to google it, and see if something comes up...

    From a computer search:
by Watchman Nee [LINK – quote at the bottom]

in his book, Release of the Spirit [LINK]

Nee has a marvelous Christian testimony but be careful with his theology.

    I like RevMitchell's quote better!

Revmitchell's way was the way I remember it...
I wouldn't quote nee anyway.... I don't like his theology.

Honestly I don't think we will find the source of it. It has been said by a great many people. It is certainly worth repeating. I have at least a couple of books on my shelf more than 50 years old that have that quote in some form or another.

Oh well, I want to be honest in my sermon and give credit where credit is due... so I guess I will attribute it to "someone once said..."

Or you could also say "It has been said over and over again" indicating that this is held to by a great many preachers.
