    This is really 2 questions

1.) I need info about how many people were killed by Romansim between about 500 (Fall of Rome) and by the end of the Roman and Spanish Inquisitions, say about mid 1800's.

I have heard IFB preachers say 50,000,000, 68,000,000 and more. They NEVER site their souce however. Can anyone here give me an accurate figure from a reputable source and site the souce (web address would be great)

2.) I recently heard an IFB preacher state "That horticulturists tell us that all fruit bearing trees come from 1 of nine trees, that were in the Graden of Eden. There were these 9 trees and the 10th one that was God's -the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The 10th one was God's, symbolic of the tithe. We have get to use 9/10ths and the other 1/10th is God's" Is this true? Can you site information or a source of this as fact?

Also I though in the Garden there was the tree of life and the tree on the knowledge of good and evil.

Can someone shed light on this??

Tell you what, IFB Mole, I've been an IFB all my life since I was 2 (Dad planted SBC churches before then), and I never heard this one. Even if there were 10 trees in Eden, I'll tell you what, there is absolutely no evidence that one of them meant the tithe! Even if there were only 10 trees, it would be allegorical interpretation to say one of them was the tithe. No good Fundmentalist should be caught doing allegorical interpretation! :(

Unless a portion is quoted elsewhere in Scripture with the words "In like figure..." :D . And those occurancies can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Looks as if it may come from a Jack Hyles story.

"I was teaching this in a service one night, and a man who has a great knowledge of botany and horticulture came to me with a startling statement. He told me that all the trees in the world originated from nine trees that were in the Garden of Eden. He listed these trees as the pomegranate, the mulberry, the berry, the rose, the palm, the ebony, the rue, the nut and the vine. If this be true, then there were ten species of trees in the Garden of Eden- nine were for man and one was for God. One of the ten was sanctified. Whether or not the statement from this expert on botany is true, one thing is true for sure, and that is, the one tree that was set apart and sanctified as holy to God was taken by man! This is the same sin committed every Sunday in thousands of churches around the world when God's people walk out of the church building with the tithe in their pockets." (Emphasis added.)

    SEPARATION OF GOD'S MONEY

Looks like one of those stories that keeps getting picked up and perhaps embellished in succeeding versions. I don't know of any objective proof of the supposed expert's statement.

My own opinion is that the number is unknown and any attempts to pinpoint a number are guesswork.
