Now that qualifies as a 'per-version'!!! No doubt about it!

Ruth should read Isaiah 45 - then she would understand that post-modern, pre-modern, whatever-modern - there is only one God - there are no others!

I don't think even any pseudo-Christians will recognize that garbage as a "bible".

I wonder when she stands before the Judgement Seat of Christ, if she will be able to utter anything more than, "Uuuh, uuuh, ooops!!"

Well, to say that makes my heart heavy is a gross understatement.

Maybe it would be something like "I knew I shouldn't have done that!"

I don't think any mods will have a problem with your assessment of this so-called "Bible" version, Mexdeaf! This is more than just a perversion of Scripture - it is a perversion of truth! Jesus born of a gorilla, indeed! You know my memory isn't perfect, but I don't recall either my father or my grandfathers walking with their knuckles dragging on the ground. What will they think of next???

What would preclude someone from using the "doctrine of soul competency" to determine that this is a "valid version"?

Because a fundamental doctrine--Christology, the Incarnation--is changed (more like corrupted/violated/perverted).

Thank you for the response. Can you point me to a resource that elaborates on this and defines the rules such as you describe?

    We can learn from...
    • Several hundred years of translations of Scriptures (the process).
    • What does Scripture teach us as most important?
    • Church history and their dealings with what we would define as "heresy."
To summarize your question, you're asking (as I understand), "What doctrines, when misunderstood, become heretical?"
    • Some scriptures are interpreted different ways; their differing interpretations do not strike at the heart of Christianity (i.e., "What exactly is a Leviathan?").
    • Some scriptures, when interpreted carelessly or wrongly, strike at the heart of our faith and must be spoken against (i.e., Jehovah's Witnesses and their Christology).
I think I know where you're going with this...and keep in mind, you have no more scriptural justification for a KJVO belief than I do here. I would contend that what I'm saying is on much sturdier ground Biblically.

This thread was not intended to turn into a debate of any kind. I only intended to point out what some folks will try to pass off as a "bible." Those of us who accept that MVs are the word of God cannot help but reject a "bible" that claims Jesus was born of a gorilla. No serious Christian can accept this nonsense. Standing against garbage like this has nothing to do with being judgmental - it is merely standing for the truths found in a real Bible.

Roger, I think this thread has run its course. You can close it any time you see fit.

Pardon, I think there is a FUNDAMENTAL problem here.

We don't have a doctrine and attempt to find Scripture to support it.

We search the Scriptures to develop proper doctrine.

The problem here is that there is no support for the translation.

You are being judgemental and it is righteous judgement. It's an obvious heretical "bible", others are more subtle.

Will one of the moderators please close this thread before it gets any more off-topic and out of hand? Thanks!

I am honestly trying to understand your positions. When I say a modern version is corrupt I hear things like the "soul competency doctrine" means that each individual can make a decision on which Bible(s) is/are truth. When you rail against this "Bible" I desire to understand what your position would be if someone said in my "soul competency" I find it to be acceptable, as I'm looking for a definitive explanation for this criteria to understand it better. Please forgive me if I offended you or messed up your thread.
