No, actually it has been held to mean freedom of expression, since speech is one form of expressing a view. I don't want anyone deciding to dumb down ideas to that acceptable to a child. Who gets to do the deciding?

Freedom means we must tolerate the rights of others to express ideas, actions, and beliefs that we ourselves may find offensive. We have no freedom to not be offended. It again gets down to personal responsibility. Don't view things you find offensive.

.........and therein lies the problem. I turn off my TV, or switch channels, but millions don't. I don't go to porn shops, or buy their filth videos, CDs, magazines, but millions do. And out of those millions arise sadists, rapists, murderers, robbers ~~~ all victims of watching porn, violence, drug use, "in the privacy of their own home." The crux of the problem is that they take their acquired fantasies out on everyone, from babies to the elderly. By what right do they do that? The rights we have surrendered by not demanding that the source of this plague be neutralized!

WE MUST DEMAND freedom to be offended by this violence, this filth, by killing it at its source: the networks. We must pray mightily for a Supreme Court that will strike down the horrendous decisions of former Supremes. We've got two new Justices who are on our side. We need seven more.

I won't let the sun set on my anger over the above quote. I may weep, however. :tear:

Therein lie the seeds of totalitarianism...when one thinks they can choose what is right for others. You now assert a connection between pornography and violent behavior, which has not been proven. I submit that a person who would commit such acts aren't pushed by pornography to do so, but would act out their evil deeds regardless. This is like those who blamed video games for the Columbine massacre. If it causes such acts, why aren't all teens who play games out shooting up their schools? Klebold & Harris were simply twisted in some horrific way, games notwithstanding.

Democracy is a terrifying form of government for a Christian, because the majority have always been lost. That said, the alternatives are pretty bleak, too. It's debatable whether "choos(ing) what is right for others" is any worse than people choosing anything they want to be "right." That way leads to pluralism and all its associated problems. There are deep dangers either way. God's Word is the only Rock on which to stand, and pluralism is a blinding force to the searching.

My understanding is that the connection between violence and pornography HAS been proven many times, by both Christian and secular sources.

I don't believe anyone claims that video games solely caused the school violence, but that they contribute to a climate of violence, desensitize people to it, and offer a pattern of reward for pretend violence that amounts to training or practice for the real thing. Yes, Klebold and Harris were "simply twisted in some horrific way," and there is reason to believe that certain video games are a part of the environment that did that to them.

I have installed the free K9 too. It seems to work great!!! It feels very user friendly. Does Google Safe Search interfere with K9, or does K9 have a safe search option?

Web filtering is like not having someone blow smoke in your face when you are trying to quit :)

The great thing about OpenDNS is it can bet setup at the router, meaning there is no software to load, or maintain and upgrade. If it is done at the router level then EVERYTHING that attaches to the network is filtered, whether wired or wireless.
