I seriously wouldn't count on it Josh. The day that homosexuality is preached as being ok will be the same day a pastor will have to hold his bible up and show us all the pages he's removed. There's no getting around Romans 1 or Genesis 19 however one "interprets" the Bible.

Regarding culture and interpretation of the "inerrant" Scriptures see:

Keeping Women In Servitude Down On The Plantation: - by D. Mary Lasley

    A significant quote is:

I don't understand why Christians who believe that God wrote every word of the Bible aren't out there advocating for the execution of rape victims. If it was OK with God then, why not now? Why aren't they advocating for the reinstitution of slavery (again, God apparently didn't have a problem with it)? If Christians are called to perpetuate the inerrant words of God - regardless of what the culture says - why are they only advocating for the causes that happen to mesh with late twentieth century American social conservativism.

Adopted, there are already baptists preaching from the pulpit that homosexuality isn't a sin - and no one has taken scissors to the Scriptures that I'm aware.

I also teach that the world is a sphere, and that we don't live under a clear dome holding up a bunch of water, and that the Earth orbits the Sun. I tell women it's OK to speak in church. I oppose slavery and affirm the decision of escaped slaves to flee their "owners." I have a checking account, and more clothes than I need (perhaps the least biblically justifiable of all of these).

What do we have here? Again?

An article posted in the News Forum which has deteriorated once again with someone defending & promoting the homosexual agenda and trying to say mainstream Baptists will change on this issue!

Well, Joshua, that day may come when some do change, but that will only be because they have joined the church of the Antichrist (One World Church) and the saints will have already been raptured! Can't wait to see (though I won't be around) how they promote a politically correct taking of the Mark of the Beast, either. Pleaze.

Shall we talk about churches who have been kicked out of Baptist Organizations for openly promoting a gay/homosexual agenda? Some who no longer belong to the SBC, for instance.

How can one argue with someone who doesn't even believe the bible to be the sure word of God?
It's pointless to use ANY scripture unless both parties believe in it.
How do you teach people to believe in Jesus Joshua? If the bible isn't inspired by God, then he's a liar and nothing it says can be trusted.

SheEagle, I actually just responded to the article saying I didn't think they were going about it the best possible way (although I affirm the spirit in which it's done).

Others diverted the thread by asking yet again how I can believe the Bible and that homosexuality isn't a sin.

Gina - "inspired and authoritative" does not mean "authored by God." How can you claim that God wrote every word and not believe rape victims should be executed if they don't scream loudly enough to be heard?

Gotta disagree with you there Josh! You give a couple of examples of false "ways" that have been corrected, although I doubt that very many pastors preached that slavery was OK. There are views of slavery in the Bible that are difficult to understand, unlike God's clear indignation of homosexuality. But never in the history of Christ's church has the Word of God been as perverted as is being done today by pragmatists and relativists such as yourself.

Homosexuality goes against God's creative (procreative) purpose. The primary reason God created "sex" is for procreation. That He made it pleasurable and desirable was secondary in purpose, and was God's special gift to the man and woman who "are joined together to become one!" This is one unit that can procreate, Josh. God never intended for sex to occur outside of that "oneness" unit. How can two men or two women become "one" in that manner?

Why is it we see instructions concerning marriage between a man and a woman in Matthew 19, 1 Corinthians 7, Ephesians 5, 1 Timothy 3, and Titus 1 but not a single instruction anywhere in the Bible about how same sexes should mimic marriage? With all the documented abusiveness that goes on with same sex partners (well beyond that of heterosexuals), why did God forget to afford them the careful consideration of wise instruction that he did a man and a woman? Oh wait! I think He did! It was . . . don't do it, it's an abomination! He said, "Do not commit indecent acts with other men." If you do you will "receive in yourselves the due penalty for your perversion."

Josh, don't bother humiliating God's Word with your explanations of NT passages as you've done on this board in the past, arguing that this passage speaks to "whoring men," and not two men who are faithfully committed to one another. That is taking liberties with the scripture that is beyond a rational man's limit! ;)

Yes Joshua, and we shouldn't eat shellfish either if we believe the bible to be God's word.
Get the same argument from atheists on a daily basis. It's a shame when people can only "rightly divide" when it suits their own needs.

Gina, add to those atheists the members of the early church, who were quite divided on the issue.

Do you believe - at any time in the history of humanity - that God wanted a woman who was the victim of rape to be executed for her victimization? Do you believe that God ever wanted her to marry her rapist? Do you believe that God ever valued women less than men (literally), or viewed them as the property of their husbands?

Sure thing Johnny. I won't bother trying to enter into a rational discussion of the epistles (which Paul is careful to state were not authored by God) if you you find it beyond the limits of your ability to reason.

Do you believe that God wanted Lucifer to fall?
Do you believe he wanted Diana worshipped?
There is a difference between including what people did against what Jesus told his people was right or wrong.

You mean as in: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. -- 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Oh Joshua, has Satan so desired to sift you, and won?

    Joshua,

Your Bible keeps getting smaller everyday! First you throw out the first 11 chapters of Genesis and now all the Epistles? What next, the gospels?

    2 Peter 3:
    15: And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16: As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17: Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

As always the abomination of liberalism wrests those portions of scripture which they find inconvenient.

    A servant of Christ,
    Drew
