Trot out a slave holder among SBs right now. I'll personally lead the fight against that church.

Trot out a church that intentionally has excluded a black person who requested membership. I'll lead the fight against that church, too.

And the churches who mistreat the poor are just as sinful as a church who calls a lesbian as a staffer.

Problem is, if we ignore sins like homosexuality, our attempts at being relevant to material needs will be nothing but a joke, a mere pretense of piety.

My wife right now not only has a stomach ailment, but she fell and broke her right wrist this weekend. Did the doctors stop treating her stomach because she has a broken bone? Of course not. Both maladies must be treated. You can and must treat more than one if necesssity calls for it. By the same token, just because there might be other sins in other churches doesn't mean we shouldn't speak out against a blatent sinful act such as what Glendale is doing.

The reason I asked whether otr not this lady is a practicing Lesbian or not, is based on the assumption that she may well have been a Lesbian, yet following conversin may have chosen to be cellibate. Yet she still may struggle against the Lesbian desire. Many people who are born again Christians that have come out of Homosexuality still struggle with Homosexual feelings, in the same way others struggle with different temptations.

Hence, it is a good question, Brother Ben. Though as a native of Corinth-by-the-Bay (San Francisco), I fear that we will not like the answer.

Actually, ExxonMobil, this church committed two wrongs. Not only did they call a LESBIAN but they called a WOMAN to be an associate pastor. First Timothy 2:12 clearly condemns the practice of women pastors.

    Ben,

It's an Alliance-affiliated congregation, so I have no reason to believe that they would expect celibacy from someone who is a lesbian. The Alliance is very clear and explicit in its affirmation of homosexuality as equal with heterosexuality.

    What's an Alliance affiliated program?

Joshua my friend, there may be some issues out there, such as drinking, that I might cut others some slack on since the Bible is a little less than clear and I do not wish to be judgemental of someone else. However, on the issue of homosexuality, the Bible clearly condemns the practice as others have posted. I do not think the passage in Romans 1 could be any plainer. Get with it, man.

Romans 1 (towards the end of the chapter, don't recall the precise verses) is speaking of willfully turning from God and engaging in "unnatural" practices, which for heterosexually oriented people include homosexual intercourse. For those to whom homosexual behavior comes naturally and heterosexual behavior is unnatural, naturally ;) the situation is different.

And Romans 1 is followed by Romans 2:1.

And the sexual practices referred to in Romans 1 are unrelated as far as I can see, and certainly for one in Christ, to the "abomination" statutes in Leviticus, be they the ones dealing with lepers or with male homosexual coitus or with cotton-polyester blends. Bill, you may think Romans 1 couldn't be any plainer, yet many of us draw quite different lessons from it.

I'm still waiting for someone to follow up on the non-equation of "abomination" vs. "sin", and I'm still waiting for one of the moderators who PM'd me sarcastically demanding that I answer some unspecified question (sounds like Stalinism, eh? or maybe Toquemada?) to reply civilly with the question he wants my answer to.

    In Christ,
    Haruo

An Alliance-affiliated congregation is one that has formally joined the Alliance of Baptists and supports it financially. It's like being a CBF-affiliated congregation or an SBC-affiliated congregation.

Just give my name if you wish to address me. The question was posted publically in the gay thread in the general baptist forum, you have posted there since but apparently missed my post so reposted it for you there tonight. Just curious "Stalinism" are you calling me names?

No Haruo. That is not accurate. The pro-homosexual crowd here is trying to rewrite the Bible.

</font>[/QUOTE]How so, Bill? (And BTW I think "crowd" is a bit hyperbolic in this case. Not that there's anything unbiblical about hyperbole! ;) )
