I believe the point was made earlier that the Salvation Army has to feed and clothe people who are homeless because their father, husband etc. gambled away their livlihood. I applaud the Salvation Army for their stand. How, in good conscious, could they accept money that was gotten by gambling when they are preaching that it is wrong and supporting people whose lives have been ruined by that very same thing? On another thought...I have heard that an unsaved man can be blessed by putting into effect spiritual laws (such as tithing etc.); maybe this man thought he could buy his way into Heaven. What do you think?

This would be the same Salvation Army who accepts as donations - books that contain softcore Pornograpy and then resell same books for gain.

This would be the same Salvation Army who hires John Doe and Jane Doe at Minimum Wage and puts them on every street corner with a bell and a bucket and accepts every penny, nickel, dime or dollar dumped in the bucket by any person that walks by - be it prostitute, pimp or preacher.

    Give me a Break!

Good point Barnabas! [IMG] That verse is often misquoted. IMO, the person who buys lottery tickets is looking for a "get rich quick fix" and, therefore, probably has a LOVE of money... I'm not judging, just inspecting the fruit... [IMG]

The funny thing is the Salvation Army will allow themselves to be associated with the Dallas Cowboys, the same Dallas Cowboys that have half naked women dancing around during football games and selling calanders of these women wearing even less!

Dressing in an unmodest manner to be suductive is! Cheerleading is one thing, shaking your thing is whole different kettle of fish. We applaud them for not taking the money which really is more inconsistent with what they normally do then if they would have taken it.

There is nothing wrong with cheerleading done in the right way. My kids went to a Christian School and the cheerleaders wore very modest clothing--cullottes 2 inches below the knees, sweaters with blouses under them. They did not dance nor do jumps. Dancing is forbidden in the Bible? Who took out the part about "...a time to dance"? Eccl. 3:4

If it's a sin to gamble, then it is a sin to play the stock market.

Investing in a business, which certainly has its risks, is not the same thing as playing the lottery.

I will grant you, however, that playing the stock market is questionable.

There is also a difference between investing money, just like the third man with the one talent should have done, and Day Trading.

It has been said by several people that the reason gambling is immoral is because it's the hope of getting something for nothing. If we're to be consistent, that means Christians should not enter any contests of any kinds, such as publishers clearing house. We should also refrain from watching most game shows on television, since by doing so, we're supporting a person's ability to receive something for nothing.

Just wondering how far the slippery slope goes.
