We will get a playoff only when the money is right for the major conferences. Notre Dame is a major wrinkle in that equation because they don't have to share their money with anyone right now.

If Notre Dame gets jobbed, maybe then a playoff will be more palatable. But let's face it: we're not going to see a playoff anytime soon. BCS plus one? Maybe. But the regular season will have to be dialed back to 11 games. Coaches are lamenting how hard the 12 game, one bye week schedule is affecting team health. Of course, the 8 months between the regular season and the bowl season should fix some of that :)

Ken, It is hard for me to be completely objective about UT... though I was definitely not surprised that the game ended up going the way it did.

I was more disappointed that neither I nor my boys got tagged a deer on opening day honestly.

However, if ND stays at 1 loss and there is a blow out between OSU and Mich then they're in. Not because Ark isn't a better team because I don't think ND is a top 10 team much less a top 2 team.

The simple fact of the matter is that they get more love all the time from the national media than they deserve. You can count on them being anywhere up to 10 positions higher in the polls than they deserve. Those guys are in love with Weiss and think that Quinn is the best QB to ever get mud on his cleats.

If ND beats USC... those voters will point back to the way USC blew you guys out as a rationalization for ND being better. It won't be right... but it probably will be the way it goes.

If USC stays 1 loss, there will be no rationalization that will get Arkansas over them. Again, it might not be right but the pollsters just won't believe you guys are better.

If you get past the best two defenses in the SEC (by a fairly wide margin) then you'd have my vote... but I don't get one. The people who do haven't been shy about hoodooing SEC teams before.

Arkansas does need work on the secondary, but I was pleasantly surprised with the backup safety's performance. I was worried with the loss of Michael Grant about TN's passing attack. There's still work to be done, but now I know that the backup can at least compete.

Notre Dame always gets too much love.

Check this out: there was big fuss because the ND game vs. Air Force wasn't televised locally. It seems like that was the first time in about 500 years that happened.

The chances of ND getting "jobbed" are far less than a playoff system coming about by an act of Congress.

ND is going to have to lose. No question. Even if everything else goes Arkansas' way, if ND is a one-loss team, they are in the BCS title game.

    Bottom Line:

The following things MUST happen for Arkansas to be in the title game:

    1) Arkansas must beat MSU, LSU, and Florida, preferably by large margins. Yes, we should run up the score if we can.

    2) West Virginia must beat Rutgers.

    3) USC must beat ND.

    4) Cal must beat USC.

Anything other than this scenario does not allow Arkansas to play for the title.

I'm thinking we'll probably go to the Sugar Bowl, but I'm hoping for better.

Unless Leak or Russell don't play, they'll be a tougher test.

LSU is especially difficult if they don't turn the ball over. They have the athletes to slow McFadden also.

Arkansas' secondary played lights out. They took a chance by playing press coverage. Alot of those jams could have been called holding which would have put them out of their game plan. UT's WR's definitely could have done a better job of creating separation. Cutcliffe could have used the TE or motion more.

The Hog D dictated the game to UT. That more than your offense is what won the game.

I'll eat some official crow on that one. Arkansas' defense was much better than I expected.

Sorry to be packing the thread...

But does anyone else think that Rutgers is getting waaaaaaaaay too much respect for being undefeated? No. 2 in the computers????

If they somehow play OSU or Michigan in the title game, IMO, it will be a blowout. Rutgers' schedule has more cupcakes than a bakery.

All coaches should from now on. We are talking about your inability to get past a team that blew you out early. You are probably better right now than they are... but they poured it on. If they'd called off the dogs a la Fulmer vs Cal... you'd be able to pass them.

The examples of UT v Cal and Arkansas v USC probably won't be lost on coaches.

No. Rutgers won't pass you even if they are undefeated.

I hope that's the case. They SHOULDN'T pass a one-loss SEC Champion, but the computers love them.

I agree that Rutgers is not going to be a factor, even if they're 12-0. If USC or ND goes 11-1, they're in the title game unless the OSU/Mich game is close, and then we have a rematch. The planets are really going to have to align for Ark to get to Glendale.

By the way, let's just say that Mich and OSU play a close game, and they rematch in Glendale. The loser of the regular season game WINS the BCS title game. Now, both teams are 1-1. Now what? Have we solved anything?

    Regarding Houston Nutt:
I think he's the next candidate at a high profile job. His agent is probably on the phone right now. For some reason, his name seems to surface at other openings. Some high profile jobs are on the horizon. I can't imagine Nutt not listening if someone wants to talk. That's been his track record.

I don't know.... Arkansas has treated him so well and all... Why would he ever want to leave?

Seems to be a good guy who deserved better all along.

I dunno...I'm not a Nutt fan. I know Ken isn't either, and he says that Nutt has shaky support in Arkansas.

Malzahn is getting some of the credit. Should he get more?
Is Ark's success all owing to McFadden? Ryan Karl said in today's paper that it looked like Arkansas ran five offensive plays Sat night, and every one of them worked :)

Actually, I thought UT was the team that only used five offensive plays :)

UT needs to do something about their DT's. Hopefully, a full off season for Mapu and Bolden will bring them back as 300 lb people eaters. Getting two of their top DT recruiting targets wouldn't hurt either. UT is on the short list for the top prep DT out of DC and also the top Juco DT. Marvin Austin would play right away as a true freshman. He's a freak.

Kudos to Arkansas for noticing how horribly UT played against running QB's. They had better get that fixed if they ever hope to beat UF again. Amazing that for all the sophistication of the UT defense... they get beat by plays more fitting of the 1940's than 2006.

Nutt has already toyed with Nebraska and LSU a few years ago. If he does something like that again he had best get on that college's airplane and go there. Neither the Hog Nation nor Frank Broyles will put up with it again after he was given a two year pass to rebuild during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
