Obama's promise of a new majority, and the question it prompts

    By Robin Toner
    Published: March 23, 2008

WASHINGTON: At the core of Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign is a promise that he can transcend the starkly red-and-blue politics of the last 15 years, end the partisan and ideological wars, and
    build a new governing majority.

    SNIP

But this promise leads, inevitably, to a question: Can such a majority be built and led by Obama, whose voting record was, by one ranking, the most liberal in the Senate last year?

    SNIP

...Obama does not come to the campaign with a reputation as one of the accommodating bridge-builders in the Senate. His voting record, albeit short, is to the left; the National Journal declared it the most liberal of 2007. Congressional Quarterly said he voted with his party 97 percent of the time on party-line votes that year.

Forget unity. The right-wing of the Republican Party needs to be defeated since it will be voting for Senator McCain!

Hard to be a believable "uniter" when you get taught seperation of the races. Obama isn't any more interested in unity with me than I am with him.

You obviously don't care to have peace with another Christian brother unless he follows your beliefs in every area.

There are scores of people, especially here in the South who were taught separation of the races and even hatred toward others not like them. Yet many, even a majority of them, have overcome in spite of this false teaching. It is sad you won't give Obama the benefit of the doubt, but instead continue to look for things to criticize him over.

What ? Are you saying that I believe in the biblical position of seperation from heresy ? If that's the case, yes.

It's sad, that after hearing the words of this hateful racist, you say I'm the one with the problem.

And you better believe I will look for things to criticize him over. Like stink on a skunk.

How much money do you suppose Obama has given to this church that he completely disavows ?

When did he "completely disavow" his church? I saw he disagreed with some of Pastor Wright's inflamatory rhetoric, but nowhere did I notice his 'dissing his church. Which, by the way, is a member of a predominately white denomination.

No, I'm just not going to waste my time with you. You are not worth talking to. Accuse me of anything you want to.

    OK ?

IN other words, you have nothin'. I merely asked you to show me where Obama disavowed his church, as you stated. I was seriously wanting to know if I missed something. I guess not.

You should know by now that if you make a claim around here, you'll be asked to support it. Otherwise, it's just baloney.

Last week I heard something like over $20,000. I didn't hear if that was for a one time special purpose or over the past two decades.

You've been Curtisized again: He attacks, and when you ask for proof, he runs away like a "skunk!"

I have posted up plenty of evidence to support my opinion that Obama is no unifier. You'll eventually find out how many fights I run away from. What I won't do is engage in name-calling games with other posters.

Thanx, KenH for the honest answer. You are a brother.

How can you be for "unity" when you're engaging in what is one of the nastiest primary fights in recent memory? Both Clinton and Obama have their attack dogs working overtime. If anyone believes either of them are for anything but typical Washington mud and sleaze, I have a bridge I'll sell you in Brooklyn - cheap.
