Clarification: The Obama campaign has told members of the press that Senator Obama was not in church on the day cited, July 22, because he had a speech he gave in Miami at 1:30 PM. Our writer, Jim Davis, says he attended several services at Senator Obama's church during the month of July, including July 22. The church holds services three times every Sunday at 7:30 and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central time. While both the early morning and evening service allowed Sen. Obama to attend the service and still give a speech in Miami, Mr. Davis stands by his story that during one of the services he attended during the month of July, Senator Obama was present and sat through the sermon given by Rev. Wright as described in the story. Mr. Davis said Secret Service were also present in the church during Senator Obama's attendance. Mr. Davis' story was first published on Newsmax on August 9, 2007. Shortly before publication, Mr. Davis contacted the press office of Sen. Obama several times for comment about the Senator's attendance and Rev. Wright's comments during his sermon. The Senator's office declined to comment.

In his press release, Obama claimed, “The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity [United Church of Christ] or heard him utter in private conversation.” Source

I hope this means we can say "bu bye" to Barack.

I don't care if he was in the church that day, or not. I think he knew the pastor's views, and I also think he supports them. Or else he certainly could have found another church, in Chicago, that preached a different gospel.

"A different gospel" . Hmm . Did you mean to say that ? Wright has been preaching a 'different gospel' for some time now . Obama should look for a church that preaches the authentic Gospel in contrast to the Galatians 1:8,9 variety that Paul condemns .

Good post. I agree it matters not.

However, I have a really hard time believing that he was friends with this pastor for 20 years and considered him a mentor and he did not know what he believed.

Was it because the news reports were starting to hurt him? Was it because he thought it was time to put some distance between himself and his "spritual advisor"?

    Is that reason to lie?

Are you saying it is OK to lie if people find out your sins and it comes out into the open?

    What?

I believe that pretty much sums it up.

Whether or not Obama was there in person when his pastor went on his rant, he surely knows his views.

The real question is why does Obama continue to submit himself to the pastorage of a known racist with anti-American views.

I told you guys over a year ago, Obama's purpose in this election is to make Hillary look like she can overcome obstacles. He probably didn't know how hard this was going to be when he signed on........

Very true. This is not the kind of agenda you keep to yourself. I also know that if I had a pastor that spoke like that from the pulpit or in private or in just in any ol' public forum, I would remove myself from the church pronto.

Exactly! I think he's been trying to play both sides of the fence for the sake of political support. It was working until last week. Now, if the media turns it around into nothing but "racial bias" on the part of those who are speaking out against it, he'll come out the winner. If not - if the truth prevails - he's toast!

I believe Obama is going to get technical on this one. He is going to say that what he means is that he was not present at any of the sermons being run on the news clips. I'm sure he was at other sermons with some "similar" rhetoric, but is trying to make himself look "unaware" by saying he was not sitting in the congregation when these specific sermons being shown were taking place.

I think truth be known, Obama is probably shocked that he is where he is right now as the front runner. Surely a man with the education Obama has, if he was ever thinking about being President one day, would surely know better than to be a part of a racist congregation for twenty years.

I think Obama's ambitions only went as far as getting into politics and being a voice for "black America". Now he finds himself hurled into a shot for the President of ALL americans.

This is what happens when a corrupt press gives a candidate a free ride. Obama's free ride is now colapsing and he seems very shaken. This story should have been brought to light months ago. Hillary couldn't say anything because of her own skeletons and the main stream press didn't look for anything!

I hope Obama can hold on to get the nom. He will be pretty easy to defeat in a general. But if he bombs in his spin speach tommorrow, Hillary might take a huge delegate count here in PA.

    God Bless!

Okay, I'll ask, what exactly is a "social gospel" as compared to "the" gospel?
