When I was in college (no comments from the peanut gallery), I took a course called Christianity in America. I did learn a lot even though it had little to do with Christianity per se.

There was quite a bit of Social Gospel addressed. Christians using the church to improve society. In all honesty, there is a need for this. We are partnered in many social ministries - but in that partnership we have not lost sight of THE Gospel of Jesus Christ and the sharing of it. We are feeding and clothing the poor because it is what our Savior would have us do.

I was wondering the same thing, since the gentle admonshment I recieved about "another gospel", I remembered Paul's words.

I am not a preacher, but I imagine a one has to approach his job with the absolute highest amount of fear & reverence. It is a HUGE responsibility to pastor a true New Testament church. This guy does his sermons with pride & arrogance. You have to do quite a tap dance thru the Bible to support this doctrine, scriptually.

Oh, it was something I said to Ken, in the heat of a debate, but I can completely imagine Obama being just a pawn in this election, set up by Clinton Inc. It may be silly, but it's not unfathomable.

It we take Wright's - and Obama's - "social gospel" and substitute all references to blacks with references to whites how would it play?

Is this the gospel we find in the Bible?

Funny, but the only place this tempest in a teapot seems to be getting any traction is on the BB.

That's not true, his approval ratings are taking a hit, and every major news outlet is talking about it, it is political issue number one.

    At least for the moment.

    Denying it is...well...being in denial.

It's hard to imagine this story staying fresh for eight months, especially with the economy doing as poorly as it is. Most Americans will have moved on to other things by then, other than religious forums and the like.

Yeah, I think they'll move on when they see Hillary feeding on Obama's carcass.

Just curious, has anyone listened to the entire sermon or just the parts Rush and Fox News have put out? I am willing to bet that there is some context that is some context that we are not aware of.

If I vote for Clinton, McCain or Obama it won't be because of what church they do or do not attend.

And BTW, America should be ashamed of itself for the way blacks historically have been treated. It is a stain on the fabric of the greatest country I know. It should also motivate us to be and do better. "All men are created equal" should be more then a catchy phrase.

There is no context in which his words would have more admirable qualities.

Americans should be proud of being the country that ended slavery here, first, then pressured the world to do the same.

When you look into the face of a Black American, you are looking into 400+ years of American history good or bad. The same for the Irishman, American Indian, Italian or Chinaman. There comes a time when one must take responsibility for themselves and stop relying on the past of their ancestors.
Hey, if this should be the way we handle social injustice by what was done in the past then I want the riches that was denied my Grandfather when my great grandfather remarried after grand dad's mother died at grand dad's birth. Greatgrand dad died when grand dad was 7 years old. Step-Greatgrandma remarried and grand dad was orphaned. She kicked him out, he was raised by a Virgina judge until he was 13 when he came to Florida to make a life of his own. And here we are and I am my own grandpa and all that jazz. Just get over it and get own with your own life.
Serve and honor Christ trusting Him for your life and forgive one another.

Huh, you might want to read a history book, England outlawed slavery BEFORE America was America! And America has hardly "pressured" the world to do the same.

Just get over it! Well there is an enlightened response! There are systemic problems that require serious attention. You just can't get over a failed education, an unjust criminal justice system. Come on think a little deeper then that.

Yeah, by what, 16 years ? OK, I'm off there.

Should any Africans be ashamed of selling the slaves ? Or is it just America that needs to be ashamed ?
