"This is a very difficult issue, and I understand sort of the passions on both sides of the issue," he said. "I have two precious daughters — they are miracles.

"This is an example where good people can disagree. The question then is, are there areas that we can agree to that everybody can get behind? We can all agree that we want to reduce teen pregnancies. We can all agree that we want to make sure that adoption is a viable option.

"Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

There go the morals and values he claims to teach.

Talk about getting in an uproar over nothing...people continue to try their best to trump up things against Obama rather than criticizing positions on the issues. I see not one thing that any rational person could disagree with in these statements.

A parent can teach all they want, but the sex drive is so strong that many fail to live to your ideals.

Since no one knows how he is going to accomplish his positions including Obama himself it is impossible to have a discussion about his positions. Other than they are wrong out of the gate.

It is the rational people who are disagreeing. Babies are not pinishment. The quote in my signature speaks to Obamas words so very clearly.

Does that mean a teenage pregnancy out of marriage is a heinous crime?

Even at that Obama is saying we should educate our youth abbout things like protection etc... I know the first lesson is don't do it but we all know 100% of our young folks don't hear that message. The second message is if you don't listen to the first then please be safe. Now if they didn't listen to the first then the probably won't listen to the second but at least we warned them.

This part I disagree with him.

"This is an example where good people can disagree. The question then is, are there areas that we can agree to that everybody can get behind? We can all agree that we want to reduce teen pregnancies. We can all agree that we want to make sure that adoption is a viable option.

    Thank you tater...

It still looks as bad to me as it did when I saw it on youtube....
"Punished with a baby" is very, very offensive words...

And this is coming from the man that has been compared to Reagan for his eloquence in speeches.
This is coming from a man that KNOWS how go give good political speeches...
Obama is very intelligent. He knows what words do to a person running for office.

He understands the power of words.... Remember, he even said so...
(although he lifted that line from another politician)
But he still knows what he is doing. He knows the abortion crowd DOES view babies as punishments, and intrusions into their lives.

The career mother has an abortion because the baby will wreck her career... it is a punishment.
The teenage senior in high school gets pregnant and the baby is considered a punishment because she doesn't get to be everything she planned...
The prostitute can't keep working the streets because no one is going to pick her up with being 7-9 months pregnant... the baby keeps her from making money...

Obama knew what the word, "punishment" meant.

    Babies are not punishments....
They are gifts from God. Each person is wonderfully made by God.
Each person is gifted and designed by God.

Obama knew he was catering to the pro abortion crowd.

What he may have overlooked was all the people that had loving mothers that allowed them to live; all the mothers that didn't have an abortion because they knew that the baby, although the timing wasn't theirs, they knew the baby was still a gift.

He overlooked all the people in the population, voters, that were born to 16 yr old girls...

He has overlooked that by calling them "punishments' to their mothers has got to cost him some votes...

I still say the guy is a jerk for calling a baby a punishment...

He doesn't value life, therefore he should be disqualified in the eyes of ALL Christians from holding office...

But sadly, too many Christians cannot see how warped he is.:BangHead: :tear:

Do you have a link to the transcript? I just want to know what issue specifically he is referring to in "This is a very difficult issue"aside from public school sex education and accessibility to contraceptives.

Regarding the line about babies, I understood him to mean that the life of being a teenage mother is a difficult one that he would not want his children to enter into as a "punishment" for ignorance. Probably not the best phrasing but I agree with that.

Hmmm.. I was so focused on the one part I missed where he calls STDs a punishment....

Which preacher was it that said HIV is a punishment from God?
Was that the guy from CBN... Pat?

And in order to have a punishment, someone must be enacting the punishment...

Who is punishing 16 yr olds with Babies?

    God?

This reminds me of when Adam blamed God for his sin....
"This woman YOU gave me has caused me to sin"...

I'd like to read the whole of what he said. Do you have a link to a transcript?

Not even to mention that both he and his wife are racist bigots. Did anyone else see the excerpts from her so-called Master's Thesis? In a nutshell, whites are bad and blacks are better.

That may be so but, there was a time in my life when people were taught to keep that under control....and they did! Pregnancy outside of marriage was rarely heard about let alone practiced or accepted.

Rarely heard about because the girls were sent away to visit Aunt Martha for a few months. You are deluded if you think unwed pregnancy is a new phenomenon. People don't always do what they are 'taught'.

But there is no reason to not teach it.

You know what gets my girls? The assumption that every teen is having sex no matter what is said. Yes, a lot are having sex - but they're also getting messages of "It's too hard to wait so just be careful." or even worse, parents EXPECTING their children to have sex as a teen.

I've raised my girls to stay pure. Period. They know about "safe sex" practices and they yell at the TV every time this subject comes on (for the HPV vaccine and the herpes medications) "The best way to not be at risk is to KEEP YOUR PANTS ZIPPED STUPID!!" LOL I honestly have enough faith in my girls for them to say "No" to having sex before they're married. My husband and I did, the majority of the students who have gone through our college ministry have and I really believe, from being around my girls, that they will also wait. I can see their hearts. It's not for guys and sex. It's for the Lord.

Ann, the thing about HPV vaccine is it prevents an infection linked to a deadly cancer. Not getting the vaccination is not a moral issue, but one of health...and potentially life & death. The idea that 'my kids won't do it' is naive. Perhaps they won't...but why chance their life on them not having a moment of weakness that can happen to almost anyone? Your kids are mde of flesh & blood, and subject to acting on it regardless of what they say or their best intentions.

Give up parents, your kids are going to sin, nothing you can do, you're naive if you think you have any influence, and yer a hatemonger for wanting kids to have consequences for bad behavior.

Just more evidence that Obama can say anything, and his apologists will find a way to say we are the ones with the problem.

I understand but understand that I have no risk of getting HPV because I'm not sleeping with anyone who has the virus. My husband and I have been faithful to each other for the 25 years that we've been together - and have only been with each other in the almost 23 years that we've been married.

My girls know how to get diseases and how to not. They themselves yell at the TV that the ONLY sure-fire way to not get an STD or pregnant is to NOT HAVE SEX. Period.

Naive? Nah - I know my daughters, trust my daughters and have faith that they are strong enough to stay away from smoking, drinking, drug use, hanging out with the wrong crowd and to not have sex until the time is right - when they get married. Do you know how many of my daughters' friends say that no one gives them credit for having a head on their shoulders? Everyone assumes that they will do wrong. THAT is a disservice to our children.
