Speaking to a group of Christian clergy at the Easter Prayer Breakfast he hosted at the White House on Wednesday, President Barack Obama referred to Jesus Christ as “a son of God.”

“It’s an opportunity for us to reflect on the triumph of the resurrection, and to give thanks for the all-important gift of grace,” Obama said of Easter, which is this Sunday. “And for me, and I’m sure for some of you, it’s also a chance to remember the tremendous sacrifice that led up to that day, and all that Christ endured--not just as a Son of God, but as a human being.”

    "...a Son of God"?

If this is just a slip, it's a very odd slip for a Christian to make.

Can you imagine yourself ever making a statment like this - intentional or not?

I doubt it was a slip. It is more likely that Obama does not want to offend Muslims. A Muslim would agree that Jesus is a son of God, but not the Son of God.

What is surprising is that the media would report this. I can't help but be suspicious of their motivation for doing so.

Not to mention the report today referencing his use of "Jesus had doubts"....

    I agree.

    What did Jesus supposedly doubt?

That Jesus is the Son of God?

    His mission?

That Jesus would do the Will of the Father?

There are no doubts expressed in the Gospel concerning Jesus that I can see.

Obama was giving a political speech.

The message no doubt is that even though we may be having doubts about Obama "the one" we should do his will and elect him again so that he can finish his mission.

Obama has to portray himself as a 'christian' if he hopes to be reelected, so his statement is no doubt carefully crafted for several reasons, none of which is any indication that the man is a true Christian.

That was my point, Obama tried to make a statement that would both satisfy Christians, and not offend Muslims. If he had called Jesus "the" Son of God, this would offend Islam. But Islam does consider Jesus a prophet and "a" son of God.

I believe the media wanted the Muslims to know Obama did not call Jesus the Son of God, and so made a big deal over this. Pretty clever, no?

The people voting for Obama don't care whether he is a Christian or not. In fact, for most of them it is a bonus if he isn't.

Why do you suppose it is that he keeps racheting up his "Christian talk"?

I will admit that he is getting better writers though...

Even if they still can't get it right.

No Truer Words Have Been Written...

...A big AMEN to you. It would appear that those who vote for Obama don't care too much about anything, so long as he remains in office. This is sad, and why our country is going backwards :tear:

Bible says we should be able to tell a Christian by their works.

So I kind of laugh at saying Obama is a Christian, based on his actions and works.
