Polls in non-election years for approval ratings is not news. It wasn't news when Bush's approval ratings were dropping, it's not news now. And Quinnipac polls have lost all credibility after the 2012 elections.

What, are we going to hold a special election if Obama's approval ratings get below a particular number?

It looks like from this post that you believe that polls are only about elections.

I am confident that politicians and their advisors are keeping a check on these polls - currently! They will use these polls to determine upcoming decisions. I realize the POTUS is a lame duck, but members of Congress will be gearing up for the next election in just a few months.
Both parties will be fight for control of both Houses and they can not loose even one day of preperation.

The poll shows that Obama's latest decisions are not flying well.

And that's why we never read of them in the papers or hear of them in broadcasts.

    All right, discuss...

ABC News/Washington Post Poll. March 7-10, 2013. N=1,001 adults nationwide. Margin of error ± 3.5.

"Do you approve or disapprove of the way the Republicans in Congress are doing their job?"

    ................Approve.........Disapprove......Unsure

    3/7-10/2013........24%.......72%.......3%

There is no doubt in my mind that Obama's approval rate is 44 or lower. Polls should be reported at regular time intervals. Really though, Obama just won reelection by a majority vote, and cannot run again, so why would Obama care what is approval rating is?

He does, which is why all of the sudden he is pretending to want to talk with the Repubs. But the big picture right now for Obama and the dems is the mid term elections.

Yes, I agree about the midterm elections. However, the overall approval rating for Congress is so low, in the teens, and that includes both parties, it is hard to imagine how any of them get reelected.

I know in our state, since Rand Paul is a big hit with the voters here, and since Mitch McConnell opposed his election to the Senate in the first place, Mitch senses he is in trouble. Rightly so because he is both primary wise and general election wise. He is already campaigning 20 months ahead of the 2014 elections. We got an automated call from him two nights ago wanting our support and to join him in a town hall meeting. My wife and I have voted for Mitch since he started running in 1984, but not this year. He showed his true colors with Rand Paul, and as Senate Minority Leader. Might as well be a Democrat.
