Obama Says He Doesn’t Have to Answer Whether War Powers Resolution Is Constitutional

    "President Barack Obama told reporters he does not have to answer the question of whether the War Powers Resolution is constitutional.

    “There may be a time in which there was a serious question as to whether the War Powers Resolution was constitutional. I don’t have to get to the question,” Obama said during a White House news conference Wednesday.

    “We have engaged in a limited operation to help a lot of people against one of the worst tyrants in the world, somebody who nobody should want to defend. And we should be sending out a unified message to this guy that he should step down "

    He is correct. SCOTUS would make such a ruling, not the Chief Executive.

    Because he wants to run rough shod over the constitution and the people of America.

    I pray he's gone in 2012, although I have my doubts, and believe people will vote him in again.

    BO Is Only Answerable to Himself!

    Everyone should know by know that BO believes he is the second coming of something like a messiah (note small case "m"), especially since "he" killed Bin Laden!

    However, MP is usually pretty knowledgeable about these things, so, his response could be taken to the bank and deposited as a fact! Right, MP??? :thumbs:

    I am sure if President Obama had decided not to interfere with Libya, the topic of this thread would be to criticize Obama because he has not done anything to help the poor people of Libya.

    I am and have said we have no business in Libya, it is a CIVIL WAR not him attacking a smaller nation. As a CIVIL WAR it is only that nations business and fight not ours.

    Isn't he correct? Is that not why we have a Judicial Branch?

    However, as head of the executive branch he needs to enforce the law as it exists, not challenge its constitutionality? I think it is unconstitutional, but it is the law at the moment.

    He's right. Unless and until Congress holds him accountable, he doesn't have to answer anything.

    The President does not and cannot make a judicial finding as to the Constitutionality of an action. However, you'd like to think POTUS would want to act in a way that would not be unconstitutional. After all, she or he takes an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. To act contrary to it hardly does any of these.
