Obama: UN ‘Legitimated’ U.S. Action in Libya

    Thursday, June 16, 2011
    By Matt Cover

(CNSNews.com) – In a 30-page report justifying continued military involvement in the NATO-led strikes in Libya, the Obama administration claims that U.S. military involvement is “legitimated” by the UN Security Council – saying that therefore no congressional authorization is needed.

“U.S. forces are playing a constrained and supporting role in a multinational coalition, whose operations are both legitimated by and limited to the terms of a United Nations Security Council Resolution that authorizes the use of force solely to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under attack or threat of attack and to enforce a no-fly zone and an arms embargo,” the report said.

So the UN is now calling the shots on where and when the U.S. sends troops?

Still wondering when Obama is going to keep his campaign promise to nuke Pakistan.

The funny part is that even our agreement with the UN requires congressional approval to deploy forces for a UN mission.

No matter how many words they make up, it's still a specious excuse.

Absolutely ridiculous. UN security council resolutions do not even require an individual state to supply troops or military resources.

Furthermore, the UN does not trump constitutional responsibilities. The US Constitution is the supreme law of the land, not the UN charter.

I actually support the intervention in Libya, but it needs to be done within constitutional means. Get congressional approval.

Obama doesn't seem to realize that the UN isn't his boss. WE THE PEOPLE are his boss.

This should light up the "Constitution Believers." This plus Obama's medical plan are the last nail in the coffin.
