The Obamanites sure seem fully convinced in all things government..
Now that is rich. Someone from NJ calling anyone city folks. Your whole state is one giant city. Anyway, there is plenty of time in the day to take care of your family and help others. You seem to focus on volunteering for civic functions. Most people on this board help others through their local church, and do more than talk about it.J.D. said:I don't believe this is true, but even if it is, what law are they breaking? And besides, since when is it a bad thing if people are going to work, coming home, getting something to eat, getting some sleep, and starting over the next day, since when is that a bad thing? How is it that taking care of you and yours causes problems? In fact I know some people that are out volunteering that should be at home taking care of their wife and children.
And just where is this lack of volunteerism going on? I go into the hospital and I see volunteers everywhere. I had to go on a waiting list before I could become a volunteer at a nursing home because there are so many volunteers there. Same thing with the local senior citizens council.
All this talk about volunteering must be the invention of city folks. Where I come from, we never talked about it, we just did it. We didn't have to have no government program. Whether it was a car broke down, or a storm-damaged house, or a someone sick, or a funeral, you name it, we just helped each other out. I don't get you city folk. You gotta have a government program to help anybody out. Shame.

Revmitchell said:Obama's original words used:
"by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year."
And since he is not trustworthy we will have to see how he requires this service. One thing is for sure my children will not participate in any forced service.

I wonder what that means....cut off our SS if we don't comply??? Is somthing sinister afoot? Sorry, he may be elected, but I don't trust him. At all.
And the rest of it reminds me of Nazi Germany youth/youth programs of the USSR. I wonder if this will be voluntary or involuntary. And if it will include ALL nationalities and both public and private schools.....
Your question is an untrue presumption and you're trying to change subjects.LeBuick said:How is this worse then listening to your phone calls and incarcerating you with no charges or trial? According to tinytim, some states do things that way.Revmitchell said:We do not do things that way in the States
BaptistBeliever said:I would say that you're misinterpreting this description of Obama's plans. Are you familiar with the peace Corps and Americorps?
http://www.peacecorps.gov/
http://www.americorps.org/about/newsroom/statements_detail.asp?tbl_pr_id=1158
Both of these are completely voluntary. If you look once again at the description of Obama's recommendation:
America Serves
"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.
Nothing here says anything about forcing anyone to do anything but it does say that college students can cut their cost of going to college by participating. I don't see why all of you are so much up in arms about this except of course you've fought Obama on everything else so it's appropriate to fight him on this as well. Is that it?

Revmitchell said:The only Federal intervention we support are those that are needed to fight against things like g*y marriage and the slaughter of children.
KenH said:Not so. Conservatives also want intervention in people's personal lives in areas such as drug use
and spying on citizens in the name of "national security".
Revmitchell said:1) it is not personal.
2) Really?
