Think they'll be constitutional scholars, or more in the Ayers, Rezko, & Hatewhitey Wright vein ? Or more in the Harold Raines, James A. Johnson vein ?

    He's got a potential 4 upcoming vacancies.......

From a man who seems to know very little of constitutional freedoms, I see no hope of having constitutional scholars/jurists on the bench, should Obama get elected.

He will put radicals such as those on the 9th circuit on SCOTUS. Get ready to hide your guns and defend your church.

I hate to laugh, but I pictured you waiting on the "revenuer's" in your Church with your gun.

I don't see why the executive branch appoints justices and the legislating branch approves. Why can't they be put on the ballot for special election or let the seat sit empty until the next election?

On any given Sunday, there are at least 40 packin' in our church.

Because that is the Constitution, and before the framers knew what judges were really for, they wanted them free of electoral politics. Unfortunately, activist judges now make law instead of interpret it.

That way they keep us out of the process.

Our system of checks and balances is a part of that keeps the various branches under control.

I would hate to see it tampered with.

I understand all that but look at what the current process does, if you are a pro-choice president then you appoint justices who think like you. Unfortunately this is politics in the process but it also denies American true representation and interpretation of it's constitution and laws. They interpret based on their world view and not based purely on law.

I would much rather our three system republican form of government with its checks and balances than a democracy of 300 million.

It doesn't appear to be controlling them. The more the American people get kept out of the loop, the easier it is for them to ram 3/4 $ trillion bill down our gullet.(I know that's not SCOTUS, just a side rant) I think it's time we try a more democratic way of putting judges there. We are the ones who benefit/suffer with their decisions, we should have more say in it.

I am a little surprised the see loyal, patriotic Americans advocating an overhaul of what has served us through thick and thin for over 200 years.

I have NO interest in a democracy.

If American elects Obama do you really want them electing our judges without any check? The president only serves a max of eight years - those judges serve for life.

They may be electing Obama out of frustration. Americans are not liberal. And while I completely respect your position, it has not been all that friendly to us in the last 40 years.

What's the difference, they put Clearance Thomas on the bench.

I was just thinking since we elect the other two branches why not the third?

Perhaps we should also give them terms.

I respect both of you guys, and a little surprised to see you in agreement ;).

I really can't imagine messing with the very foundations of our constitutional structure. I don't want politician judges pandering to the masses.

If we take away the checks and balances of the legislative and executive branches are you also willing to cancel the checks and balances of the judicial over them?

I don't trust the masses any further that I can throw them. I wish the state legislatures still elected the Senate.

Overall, America is a center-right country politically. But most Americans also want middle-class entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare to be preserved.

Explain why you say that obama "seems to know very little of constitutional freedoms." I see no evidence of that.

Don't you know that only conservatives are knowledgeable about the U.S. constitution?
